Using remote to lower the convertible top

Can anyone tell me the range using the key to lower the top? I have to stand within a few feet of the car. I have a 08 mcs.

Mine is an '06, but I'm guessing all R52s are similar. Used in the normal position (down close to your waist, or held out at 3/4 arm's length in front of you), my experience is like yours - very limited range. I read somewhere on here that if you hold the remote right in front of your mouth and open your mouth as wide as possible (looks silly, I know) the range opens way up. It does work. Closing your mouth reduces the range some, but doesn't feel as stupid. This is my method. Holding the remote right in front of my face lets me start the lowering process about 80-100 feet out, so its 75% over by the time I get to the car. Happy Motoring.

Sounds interesting, but I am not sure if I am brave enough to try it. If I do try it, it will have to be at home in the backyard with the gate closed.

Just touch and hold the key to your chin. You become the antenna. And , One With The Car.

Holding key to chin works, Go from 10 feet to about 100 with this trick.

That is very interesing I will have to try it. I hate the 10 foot range, It would surprise people to see it open from a distance.

Sounds dumb, but I can add some 'extra range' on top of that, if I raise my hand in the air while holding the fob to the chin.

I felt like an idiot the first time...but once you see it works, it becomes all good.

Never tried the open mouth bit...maybe you need a lot of dental work to make that significant ;-)

If range is needed I put my remote to my throat and if need-be raise my air in the air (I'm 6'-6" so not always necessary).

Get a parabolic device and attach it to the remote...like a microphone, or a satellite dish. The range would go way up. I always thought lowering it was stupid anyway...I always wanted a remote RAISE feature.

My dealer said it is not available on my 06 S...He also told me it would cost 2 grand to fix the top that I fixed myself with some WD40 and contact cleaner. These "service technitions" are IDIOTS..at least the one who "inspected" my car.

I'm also afraid of the service tech at the dealer. What did you fix on your top? My 2005 Convert top won't open past sunroof. No light no nothing when I press either button...and won't close from sunroof. Any wisdom you can pass along?
