R50/53 Windows not always "closing" after door is opened
Windows not always "closing" after door is opened
The car:
'06 MCS (w/ 11+K mi)
The Problem:
Several times now (and very sporatically, with no real pattern), the windows don't roll up after they drop down when the door opens.
I've made an apt. w/ the dealer, but I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before? I quickly searched the archives and came up empty (but did find a cool mod. for auto-up from IANs that I will be ordering shortly)
TIA!

I had what I thought (at the time) was the same problem...
It turns out the problem wasn't really a problem. Shortly after I bought my '06 MCS I had the dealer program the auto-down functionality in the key fob. So sometimes when walking up to my car and unlocking with the fob, I ended up activating the auto-down feature. So it looked to me that the windows never rolled back up after I got out of the car.
Not saying that's what you are seeing here, but just relaying what happened in my case.
Good luck with the fix!
BTW, you will like the auto-up module. I consider that a must-add mod for the money. I chose the MCAW (http://www.mcaw.info/), but others here highly recommend Ian's module. I doubt if you will go wrong with either...

Curious problem ... the normal complaint is that the windows don't dip down when you open the door!
Do the interior lights go out when you close the door? I wonder if somehow the car thinks the doors not shut properly - hopefully the dealer will figure it.
Is it very warm where you are? Probably not, in NJ!
There's apparently some sort of thermal overload shutdown feature that could cause this ...

Jason- I had the same problem and it turned out that I wasn't closing the windows all the way. After the fact, I wait to hear a "clicking" noise. Never had a problem since.
Regarding Ed's post: the auto-down feature may be at fault too.

It's happened to me just a couple of times ('05 MCS). But in my case, I think what 200-OK said is correct...I did it myself by holding down the unlock button a bit too long (when the keyfob was stuck in my pocket, or I had a handful of stuff and accidentally held the button down, etc.).
Hmmm....
Interesting.
1) yes its been cool while doing this... 50's or 60's F... not warm enough to open the windows while motoring, but close.
2) the FOB has been in my pocket at least once, and could have been either pressed too long by me to lock or in the pocket as I was walking away...
Thanks for the responses!

It's likely a failing window motor - a really common problem with BMWs/MINIs. Because the windows roll down just an inch or so every time you open the door, the gear that connects the motor to the glass starts to strip the teeth in just that one spot, eventually resulting in a mis-alignment. This has happened to many MINI and BMW owners and is a known issue.
If you're still under warranty take it into the dealer NOW before you end up with a stuck-down window just before a rainstorm (like me).

But then again, better safe than sorry...
and thanks to Agro in Vegas for doing the install for me.
as for the original post: I have come out several times and seen my windows down, but i think it's because I pushed my key fob a 3rd time and started the auto down feature. don't think that's what's happening to you, though.
