theyre $900 with UHP Hankooks, or UHP Falkens
the Hankooks and rims are 19.5 lbs
and the Falkens and rims are 18.7 lbs
so whatya all think?

Tire Rack has many many a selection of non-runflats for S-lites if thats your only reason for buying new wheels, you can get a set for less than $400

Yep non-runflats will fit your S lights just fine. $900 for wheels seems a bit over the top.

those last two didnt show; but what specific type of tires are you looking at. i just got soem falken fk452's on my car (alogn with aftermarket wheels, sort of pulled the same thing as you used new tires as justification to get wheels) and have foudn them to perform below myexpectations, atleast in dry weather. they break quite easily though they atleast break drama free and you can feel a "forewarning" of the tires getting ready to break before they actually do. In the wet though i think they are great. Just an FYI since i also used edgeracing and on paper the falkens looked nice

There is no way those wheels with tires weigh 19.5 or 18.7 lbs. That could only be the weight of the wheel alone.

and i was thinking of hankooks because ive had them before on a cherokee i had and they were great on that.

the sport edition E3s are $106 each without tires, and weigh 21.6lbs

the ASAs are $119 each without tires, and weigh 25.1lbs

and i have the choice btwn two bad tires, or a set of goodyears (for both rims, same choices) that cost a thousand dolalrs on there own, so i think i might get the rims and take em to a local shop to get my frequent customer discount being that all of my family's cars get serviced there

those ASA's look really slick, but they really dont cause any loss in weight, and seeing as the s-lites are ridiculously heavy im under teh impression that part of your reasoning to new wheels is to lighten the unsprung weight on the car

Most likely we can find you some less expensive but very good tires at tirerack. You can always call and ask for Alex, he really knows MINIs very well.

When buying rims from tirerack it's good to consider tires at the same time, they all come mounted and balanced and shipping is quite good. Then you are ready to install them as soon as they arrive.

When changing rims consider-
Rim weight- don't go heavier so 25 lbs is the limit. Lighter is always better. Fliks at 18 were good considering 17". Your other option is consider a nice 16x7 rim and there are plenty to choose from. 16" rims can be very nice on the MINI both MC and MCS.

16" rims will allow a variety of tires from very aggressive (215/40-16 or 205/45-16) to very comfortable (205/55-16). There is a good selection of performance summer or All Season tires.

So in 17" which size tires were you looking at?
Choose from 205/45-17, 215/45-17, or 215/40-17 and what level of performance? Ultra High, Max, Extreme, or High? Or maybe All Season tires- usually in Ultra High or High performance.

Go back to tirerack and check out the 16" before deciding. The other thing about 16" rims is many are much lighter than 25 lbs and many are reasonably priced.

Just some examples from tirerack.com
In 16x7" rims

O.Z. Ultralegerra in 16x7 Bright Silver Paint or Matte Graphite Silver for $189 each on special and 14.5 to 15 lbs each +37mm offset

A good street tire for a 16x7 rim would be-
Kumho Ecsta MX (extreme performance summer tire) $88 each
220 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 21 lbs 25.1" outer tire diam.

In Max Performance Summer tires:
Dunlop SP Sport Max $108 each $50 rebate for set of four tires
240 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 22 lbs 24.9" outer tire diam.
Bridgestone Potenza S-03 $131 closeout
220 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 24 lbs 24.9" outer tire diam.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 $133 each
280 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 23 lbs 24.9" outer tire diam.

In Ultra High Perf Summer tires:
General Exclaim UHP $65 each
380 treadwear AA traction V speed rated 20 lbs.
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval $104 each
320 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 23 lbs.
BF Goodrich g-Force Sport $75 each
340 treadwear AA traction V speed rated 23 lbs.
Kumho ecsta SPT $69 each
320 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 22 lbs.
Avon Tech M500 $77 each
280 treadwear AA traction W speed rated 23 lbs.
Dunlop Direzza Dz101 $74 each
300 treadwear A traction V speed rated 22 lbs.

Sport edition doesn't have E3 in 16". But does have F2 in silver for $91 each and F7 in silver for $91 each 20 lbs. both 16x7 +40 offset

Or Sport edition in E3 has 15x6 +45mm offset 15.2-15.6 lbs in satin silver or machined with anthracite accent. Aggressive tires would be 205/50-15 and comfortable tires would be 205/55-15.
