Fire Extinguisher Mounting

After seeing a few Car-B-Ques on the side of the road, I have decided its time to mount my fire bottle in my new-to-me '06 MCS.

A quikck search of the archives yielded nothing, so I'm wondering if anyone has mounted a little 2.5lb?

TIA!

If my car catches fire, the LAST thing I am going to do is try to put it out with a tiny little fire extinguisher while risking dying in a fiery explosion. These are the sort of things I pay my insurance agent to worry about.

What if you or your passenger is on fire? Or you see someone trapped in a vehicle on fire?

Something to keep in mind...most big fire start with small electrical shorts which can be stopped if you happen to have a fire extinguisher...

That's my plan... big fire, I run away unless someone needs saving... A little smoke, I investigate with Halon / Halotron in hand...

... and, sometimes, in times of crisis I actually remember what the "plan" was...

Thank you all for the quick responses...

And to answer the question above... Well, there are 2 reasons to have a small bottle...
The first is its required by PCA (Porsche Club) if you want to take any car on the track for a DE (Driver's Ed, other wise known as track time to learn the limits of your car...) I'm not sure what the rules are with BMW-CCA (of which we can also be members and take advantage of their DE's)...

FOR PCA, the firebottle needs to be mounted so that the driver can grab it while belted in...

What good is a little 2.5lb bottle against a car fire you ask?

Well at Mid-Ohio a newer Boxster (with a brand new exhaust header and muffler) went out and promptly caught fire... the header melted a plastic shroud... a tiny little fire exploded into a major one once he stopped... he had his little 2.5lb bottle (along with 2 other 10lb-er's that I and another pit marshal were manning) put the fire out...
Instead of Car-Be-Queing his ride home, he had only a melted piece of plastic... (which dripped onto said new header). No damage was done (except to his underwear and said plastic)... It didn't even char or bubble any paint.

Oh, and reason #2 was stated before... big fires come from little ones...
If the 2.5lb bottle doesn't put it out (and I'm not at the track), I'll let the fire co and insurance deal with the remainder...

Cheers!

Has anyone looked at installing the extuingisher on the back of the passengers seat. That way it wouldn't be in the way of the passenger or driver.

I'm not sure there is any metal to tie into on the seat back...
(PCA requires metal-metal contact)... so I was going to poke around the seat frame...

I had a pretty slick install on my Ford Contour SE, the seat still slide fore/aft no prob. and had most of its height adj....

The Porsche, I just stuffed it onto the trans tunnel, just behind the arm rest (to close initially, as I nailed my elbow in the 1-2 shift and saw stars... )

I'll investigate (in my spare time) and report back...

After a quick look, there appears to be a little metal on the leading edge of the seat, and 2 cross-bars, that I may be able to fab. a bracket to mount to... this will take a little time and some engineering... finally my degree becomes useful
