I'm looking for a used 2005 MCS with just the right combination of colors/packages. First, let me just say that NAM has been a wonderful tool in helping me understand model year differences, etc.

When I go to see a used Mini, how can I visually verify that the following options are on the car:

1. Xenon headlights
2. Harmon Kardon stereo upgrade
3. Aux input for iPod

I'd rather verify myself that these options are on the car, rather than trusting a salesman that may know less than me.

Appreciate your feedback in advance!

 

Xenon headlights you won't be able to really tell visually unless you pop the hood and look for the ballasts, even then unless you know what you're looking for it's hard to tell. The best way to tell is to turn the lights on .

Harmon Kardon, the front speaker surrounds (Silver Plastic) will say Harmon Kardon on them in a half moon arc.

Aux input honestly I have no idea, I assume it can be anywhere, it really depends on who installed it.

Why worry about the aux input? It costs about $40 and is a easy install.

The H/K head unit is different looking ( should be lots in the ICE thread) and I think the speaker grills get a small H/K badge too don't they gang?

 

Are you asking about the AUX input, which is just a 1/8" standard jack for any audio device?
Or are you asking about an iPod link which would allow operation of the iPod via steering wheel controls?


....But both of these are easy to retrofit (unlike xenons or H/K) -- so this option shouldn't be a deal breaker if you're looking for specific colors and major option packages.

 

As rustyboy pointed out above, the speakers is the easiest way to tell.

I'm very familiar with BMWs, so I think I should be able to recognize the xenon and the HK.

I'm just looking for the standard AUX input, but as said, it won't be a deal breaker.

 

Let us know what specifics you are looking for in a MCS. There are several on another Mini board for sell.

I'm looking for low mileage, 2005 MCS, preferably with cloth seats, HK, xenon, and moonroof at a minimum.

No specific preference on color, although I do really like the dark grey.

Not necessarily, the 02-04 Mini's with Xenons looked pretty much the same (As far as I can tell) as the Halogens. They did not have projector housings. The 05-06 there is an obvious difference because of the "Ray Gun" projector housings.

We are intending to have Stuart's Paint and Body do a complete detail and touch up on this. And trust me when I say they are out of the way for us but everyone on here seems to really like them and they seem to do great work. They ensured me that the Mini will look like it just came off the showroom floor. From there it will be going into our garage till a buyer comes along.

We are having one tire replaced so you will have a brand new tread - I guess I've been hanging around too many construction sites cuz we picked up a few nails. So instead of patching, we're going to bite the (big) bullet and replace for the new owners.
