Rain sensor operation

I have a 2004 MSC
When we bought it, it already had a PPG windshield installed. And the jokers who did it apparently lost the rain sensor...so it did not have one, just the plug.
So picked up one othe these
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=RE33&mospid=48021&btnr=61_1419& hg=61&fg=15

Plugged it in, set it next to the windshild, started the car, put the wiper stalk into position 1, wipers did one wipe.... I started pouring water on the glass and NOTHING>...

Now the wipers did not do the single wipe before, now they do...but nothing else... is this feature speed sensitive or something?

Thanks!

Certainly sounds like it's not working. In first wiper position you'll get one wipe immediately and then more wipes, right up to continuous high speed, according to sensed rain.
The sensor has to be firmly mounted to the glass - you say "next to the windshield"; what does that mean?

Of course, you had it the right way round as well

Can somebody post a picture of the rainsensor from outside and from inside.
Mine snaps into a cover. I attached it with double sided sticky tape for now

The sensor has to be stuck to the window with a special adhesive pad.

Do you have a part number for that?

Go to the PPG website and find the catalog for Precision Replacement Parts. Look for part 800008.

Does BMW have the same part?

BMW/MINI will tell you it has to come in the windshield and try to sell you a super expensive windshield. Just ask you glass guy and he will get it for you.

Schernov,

Did you ever resolve this issue? My rain sensor is also not working. It used to wipe 2 times when I turn it on. Then it would function normally. Now it will wipe once, and then never again....

Not yet, I am getting a replacement sensor... if that does not work, I am not sure what to do

I can give you guys a couple of warnings. The first time my glass guy tried sticking it on with some regular translucent tape. The wiper did not work. You need to get the pad. Also, stick the pad to the windshield first, then stick the sensor to the pad. We did it the other way around and got a bubble in the pad because of the windshield curve (it still works though, but it doesn't look as good). When the pad is properly stuck to the windshield it should be dark purple.

Thanks for the tips. I have my glass guy coming now. I'm going to remove my old sensor lens (it came with the aftermarket glass). They will install a BMW lens that they have to see if that fixes my problem. The dealership told me my sensor is ok as well as my fuses and wiper switch. I'm hoping the change in lens does the trick.

I have a buddy who is a BMW tech and he'll do a little research for me to see if he can dig up anything. I'll post it here if I learn something helpful.
