R50/53 MCS: Second best car in the world!
#1
This may have been mentioned before, but even so it's worth repeating!
Just picked up the May issue of "CAR" magazine (very cool British mag) and they choose the 100 best cars in the world.
The MCS is #2, second only to the Porsche 911 turbo! The standard Cooper also did well, coming in at #24..

I've had my MCS since Feb 10 and I have motored about 2450 miles in Hawaii on an island 40 miles wide.
As I drive the MCS I am just beginning to appreciate and experience what it is capable of doing. One eye opening thing I did last week is to go to an all day driving class.
In the afternoon I got onto a track and on two separte occasions instructors drove my MCS on the track giving me some instruction on what to do. As professional teachers you could tell they were very comfortable doing track driving and they had no trouble driving pretty hard in a car they had little experience with. They were always smooth and in control, looked easy. Their driving skill revealed what the MCS could do in the right hands (and feet). I had a madness intake and rear swaybar set to stiff but otherwise had a stock MCS with sports package and Pirelli runflat tires.
When it was my turn to drive I made my share of mistakes- not too big but I didn't drive like they did. But I am inspired by what I saw and I look forward to my next class. I try to practice some of the things I learned, in my everyday driving- be smooth, don't waste effort.
I'm thrilled I have a chance to drive a cooper S, there is so much to learn, there is a huge performance envelope.
I think it deserves at least #2.

I searched for the car magazine article from May but didn't find it.
I did find this article that was extensive.

Not bad.

>>Hey Calvin77, any way you could post that article? NUMMYTIME
It's not really a written article, its more like a pictorial spread with pictures of each of the 100 cars and their rank, along with a brief explanation of why they ranked like they did.
Next to the MCS's picture, it says:
#2 MINI Cooper S
"Why is it here?:
No car is more fun for everyday driving than a MINI Cooper S, with its enthusiastic handling, whizzy supercharged engine and insatiable appetite for corners. It's more than capable of humbling supposed superiors on a favorite back road."
The M3, by the way, ranked at #14.

Those Brits might want to spend less time in the pubs drinking pints and actually drive the cars....I'm sure the german car mags will have different results, as well as the Japanese, WRX #1, laugh.....Detroit mag I'm sure has the Vette #1....totally political but still fun to read at any rate..
BTW...I have driven a M3 on a closed course and well, nothing even a close 2nd in terms of exhilaration, except maybe my first date with my wife...gotta be careful, she sometimes reads the posts here to make sure I haven't bought a pulley reduction kit...lol
Just saw pics of the new M4...looks a little too much like the M5 for my tastes, from 333hp to almost 400, but 1" longer wheelbase and 2" wider track....when is this hp race going to end among all these companies, laugh !
