What's Wrong With My Sunroof?

So its now February here in New England, and we still have no snow (knock on wood). It was nice and sunny today, so I opened my sunroof (all the way open) on the way home from school. When I got home, it wouldn't close. It would move about an inch then die. I kept trying, and finally got it to close about halfway (VERY slowly), then it stopped, and opened all the way up again. I kept trying until it seemed like the roof just died all together.

After multiple attempts....I was finally able to get it closed but I had to hold the button for about 7 mins straight (it closed THAT slowly).

Any ideas?

Sounds like the motor that powers it is/was in a bind or is going bad. :( Maybe it is off of it's tracks? Does it slide in that felt covered rubber like the door windows do? If so, go get a can of spray (aerosol) silicone lubricant. NOT grease. Take the chance of opening it again, spray some silicone on the corner of a rag and run the rag back and forth inside the felt to lubricate it. That helped immensely on my mother's Venture's driver door window. The difference was literally night and day. If you don't mind a little mess, you can use the spray tube and spray the silicone along the length of the rubber channel. Just hold a rag under where you spray so it doesn't get on your upholstery. Best of luck to you!

Jeff

since the fuse didn't blow, im thinking the motor is going (rusted or
burnt commutator?)

is there a way to manually close these sunroofs? usually i see these
hand crank socket thingies on other cars. i haven't looked up to check
for that on the MCS.

i've never used it (or looked for it) but there is supposed to be a hand crank tool in the toolkit that fits somewhere up by the reading lights so that you can close it manually. at least that's what I remember reading.

It should be a wrench of some sort, all cars that have a sunroof have a way to open/close it in the event of a power failure.
