Punk kids

Why do teenagers act like punk kids some times? I am driving in my 911 Targa (86) and some punk kid in a dinky cavalier comes flying up my tail like he is going to race me. I decide to play a little and drop it down into 2nd and run through the gears through 3rd. After approaching traffic and slowing to moderate speeds he then again blows by me like he is something special.

What is it that makes punk kids think they need to race? At least he was not in a Mini... I doubt if I were in my MCS he would have felt the need to do such stupid things.

Well first discussing street racing is not allowed here but your question is valid.

I had an 85 911 Targa. Great choice in cars

But the answer is simple ... some people see that little symbol on the hood and have to prove something ... that they are better than you. He's not going to challenge a MINI ... but boasting to his friends he smoked a Porsche will give him props ... status.

Let it go, don't taunt them. Let them get the ticket for racing. You really dont want that ticket.

The best comeback I have ever read is simply to wait until a light, roll down the window, and say

"Ok dude, lets go to a track day and race for pinks".

You will not hear from him again.

Actually, Motor, I read this all the time on other forums

Most ppl with a little bit of maturity just let them go. They know the cost of street racing. Rarely do I read someone actually took some kid on ... its not worth the risk and is plain stupid.

Well one of the nights was when I was testing a camera mount so I've got a video of me driving and a Vette going nuts for a good half hour because I would not give in, but would just climb to the speed limit and not go 1 MPH over to prove my point.

Also I wanted to point out yet again, that it is not just teenagers who do these stupid things. There are plenty of older drivers with a death wish as well. Sometimes it even takes a teen to difuse the situation and not race.

IF YOU WANT TO RACE TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!!!!!!

I don't give a dang about how old you are what car you drive what gender you are, if you feel the need to drive in such a manner then go to the race track. Nuff said. IB4TL NEXT!

I was out one day in our 06 G35 Coupe. Came up to a stoplight, someone pulled up next to me in a brand new, yellow Mustang. Proceeded to rev his engine. I figured it was one of my buddies. No no, it was a balding 50-something man.

I figured that once he realized that I was just a kid in my dad's car, he'd stop. Instead, he sees me and revs it even louder. Light turns green, and this guy just floors it. Wheels spinning, starting to smoke. I, very calmly, let out the clutch and just get going. Eventually, he caught up and passed me, then rode away.

When I got home, I told my dad about it. He got this funny grin on his face and said simply:

"I would have smoked him"

I love my dad

Agreed. Stupid people come in all different sizes, races, colors, religions, ages, and mental ability.

why you say that? I'm pretty sure that g35s, if they are 6 speeds, can match with the new GTs..

Ah ... NO. Sorry to disappoint but that was for an 07 6 speed with more HP

You have a 2004. Think about 6.2, 1/4 mile over 14.1 ... about JCW territory

Nice cars, though, we were considering one as a second car, thought more of it than the IS250 or baby benz

A month or so ago, my daughter and I were on our way home around 9:30 one night. This car zooms by me and gets on the interstate. I get on behind him not thinking anything. Once on the interstate, he slows down and I drive by him doing my normal speed on cruise. He blows by me, then slows down again. Still on cruise, I go by him. He flies by me again gets in the right hand lane and starts to slow down. I start to slow down, but due to cars up ahead I get over. He stays behind the car in front of him until I pass him. My exit is coming so I get over after I have passed the car that he was behind. By this time I'm starting to get a little upset so I punch it. He follows. Once I get outside town and the speed limit changes I punch it again. I get a good distance ahead of him, but see him coming in my rear view mirror. He barely catches up to me before I have to turn on my road. This guy had freaked me out enough that I was debating on calling my husband to let him know so he could be standing outside waiting just in case this guy decided to follow me home. My exit isn't one that a bunch of people get off of. And most who do get off go the other direction. I had no intention on racing him, not stupid. I only sped up to try and get away from him because I felt as if he was following me. He might of wanted to do the race thing, but when he got off at the same exit as me, that was a little scary.

The other day my husband and I were on our way home on the interstate and the same thing happened again. Except this time I made it a point to stay behind him. Wasn't the same car. Some kind of Civic or something like that.

So yes, just because you are in a MINI people do want to race you. I don't want to put my life or others in danger.

I have a friend with a '94 Supra Twin Turbo (he purchased it long before Fast and the Furious BTW) and an '88 Lotus Esprit. He had a terrible time with Mustang owners trying to race the Supra, but no one wanted to touch the Lotus. Funny thing is that the Supra would straight line kill the Lotus! He chose to just ignore them and let them dream.

Someone in a Mazdaspeed 6 tried to race me on the highway tonight. In the fog, with wet roads. I just laughed at him.
