What the heck is meant by "my windows don't dip" and talk along those lines. I'm receiving my MINI next month and I've never heard of this until recently. Do you want them to dip or don't you???? Thanks for your input!! NUMMY

The windows go down a little bit as you close them and then go back up after it's closed so that the window fits inside the channel on he car body. I've met someone whos windows don't quite seem to be doing this correctly. They either aren't dipping or are coming back up too soon. Sometimes when you close the door it just presses the window up against the weatherstripping instead of going inside it. Yikes!

Is this a new feature on cars or am I just way outdated with my current nonpowered windows? I never heard/saw of such a thing! Is it obviously noticable or is it something you really need to be looking for to catch?

It's something you have to look for. Basically since the MINI doesn't have a frame around the window, in order to ensure a nice tight fit, the windows go up after you close it and down when you open it. The movement is slight (probably 1-2mm) and it helps create a better seal around the window so it doesn't leak. Again, this is just because there is no metal bits around the window except the bottom part.

The MINI's windows are "stand alone" if you will. There is no frame around the upper and outer edges built into the door. If that makes sense...lol.

The first time I closed a door on a MINI...I freaked out when it did it. So I consider it pretty obvious. Hope this helps!!

When I first got the car I noticed the sound of this happening when I shut the door but couldn't figure out what it was doing. It wasn't until I was out in the rain and had little droplets of water on the window that I could see what was actually happening.

It all makes sense now.

Me too! I didn't know what was going on. I was so excited to have a new car that I forgot all about the frameless window...until I was about 1/2 way home from the 800 mile roadtrip and I finally realized what it was doing! I think it (having no frame) looks so cool when the window is down and the door is open.

One question though, does anyone else have this problem? I don't know if I have some bad dipping going on but sometimes when I'm driving along there is a "sticky sounding" rattle coming from the window/door. Do you think the window isn't going up quite far enough, thus causing this noise? Sometimes I try to open then close the door again to see if it goes away. I haven't figured out if that works all the time or not.
