I am think about getting a Mini Cooper S. I played around on the MiniUSA site and picked all the options I wanted and it came to about $24030 MSRP. I was wondering if I will be able to get that price at a dealer, and since I customized it will have I have to order it and then pay more?

I basicly picked a dark metalic with black roof no stripes, sport pkg, cold pkg, panther leather, and the premium pkg with out the sun roof, and about $300 of dealer options.

Any help will be appreciated, I'm probably going to go to Oklahoma City or Dallas this weekend to get some hands on looks and feel at a dealer and find out how much they want to bend me over for.

MSRP all the way! Don't let your dealer get the upper hand...

I paid $50 over MSRP in Texas. They called it a "doc fee" or some crap. I'm sure the fine would have been much greater if it weren't for a Texas law setting a $50 maximum on "doc fees".

Paid MSRP - ordered exactly what I wanted (MCS) and my wait (I'm still in the midst of it) is 2 months. I've talked to other dealers for the possibility of having a vehicle shipped to me from elsewhere (not my hometown dealer), but many had longer wait times. For instance, I called the Denver area MINI dealer (I did so because state tax there is I believe 2.9% compared to our 5.6%). I was told they wouldn't charge any tax as you would apply for tax, title, and licensing upon picking up the vehicle in your state. I was looking for any angle to get the price down! With no money shaved off there and Denver quoting me a wait time of 6-8 months, I figured if I wanted one, I was sitting in the best city to do so. That dealer also told me if my dealership had only a 2 month wait with paying just MSRP, he'd jump on it. SO I DID! Sorry to hear it sounds as if you don't have a dealer near you. Once you get up close and personal with a MINI, you'll want one even more. Good luck on your research and enjoy your ride!!!!!

MSRP is the best most people can do.
If the market is tight because demand is high and supply is short then longer wait times up to 10-12 months or $1000s more can be the norm.

In Hawaii we have a 5 month wait if you want to get HK sound system or MCS but you pay strictly MSRP and $500 deposit. The problem is there are people waiting that have not filled their orders from previous months. If there were no backlog then it would take about 1 to 2 months to place an order and ship it. However if there are people still waiting from months before and the allocation of a dealer is limited then they will never fill the orders for each month and the backlog starts to grow.

Fortunately there are a few ordered minis that are not purchased so they become available on lot. As a result the dealer here will add an "appearance package" for $400 consisting of rubber floor and boot mats and wheel locks. But that is it. Sometimes they will take a few minis and remove the alloy wheels and send them to california for chrome finish. Takes a few weeks and then they install them on the mini and increase the price by $2500. Another common thing is a few in stock minis are taken to have the full or part aero package added with painting of the black plastic side and wheel well trims- for $5000 extra. Looks really nice and very clean. At any time there may be 2 minis with chrome wheels and at least one with the aero package installed.

One really bad thing here is that we have to wait many weeks for minis to be unloaded from the docks. Somehow there are delays even though the cars are in port. This just adds 2-3 more weeks delay.

If you want to buy cheap then look at the used mini2 market. I was looking at the Atlanta paper and there were at least 8 minis for sale- some with very low miles- almost new. Some bargains there. In Hawaii there are no private sales of used minis for the last month listed in the newpaper

MSRP. If your local dealer is reluctant to sell for that amount, go elsewhere. There are many dealers all over the country who work at MSRP levels.

MSRP is the rule these days. No dealer add ons, no markups, no bogus paint protection packages. Check several dealers and ask about delivery times, they can vary from dealer to dealer. I passed on two dealer in my area in favor of one that's 300 miles away because he could deliver my car two months earlier.

Have fun ordering your MINI and then you can look forward to leaning all sorts of tips and secrets here at MCO while you wait for your new baby. Join the appropriate "Month Club" and you'll have a great time.

Good luck!

MSRP, to pay more is just wrong, the dealer is rich enough as it is.

jerrygee,

I PM'd you with this same question, but do you mind me asking where you bought your Cooper S? Your situation (MSRP + 2 month wait) sounds ideal for one as obsessed as I am.

Thanks,
- MCObsessed

Obsessed,

I got the same deal. MSRP and 59 days from the day the car was ordered until arrival at the dealer. I got mine in Feb from Momentum MINI in Houston, TX.

mini of the hamptons sells them straight off the lot for MSRP, and every MCS has all three packages on them. you would have to pay for shipping, which is nothing compared to most markups, and it would probably be less than a week to ship out.

Greetings,

Paid about $900.00 less than MSRP because my dealer had over 30 MINIs in stock at the time, and they really wanted to sell a car. I told them what my bottom line was and they finally agreed! I bought more than I orginally wanted but I couldn't be happier now.
There is no harm in negociating - especially if they have cars on the lot !!
Best Regards,
Ron
