stock radio when cold problem? need advice

This morning when I woke up and got in my Mini I turned on the stock radio and some of the display numbers of the radio station were only partially showing up. (like part of a 2 was missing and part of a seven) These spots on the display stayed out when I switched around the stations. it was not doing this lastnight. Now the Mini was outside in the cold all night. Could this be the reason for it or do I need to take it in? Anyone else ever had this happen?

thanks

that sounds more like a electrical in the headunit thing then a cold thing.

Did they light back up when the car got warm? I would actually say that it IS the cold. How cold did it get where you live? It gets C-O-L-D here in Ohio, and the car does all kinds of funny things when I start it up after a night of sitting in bitter cold.

I can say that does happen to mine and only when it is cold outside. It doesn't really bother me, and if you take the car in, they won't be able to recreate it anyway. My suggestion is to live with it. My car is over 3 years old and no further problems have developed.

My 03 MCS did the same thing. True, if you take it in, they will most likely not be able to duplicate it because it gets warm by the time they see it. Finally, mine had become so bad that I took a picture and sent it to my SA. After seeing the picture they had me come in to have the head unit replaced.

Did anything besides the display become affected? Did it still sound and function ok?

All LCDs will do that in the cold to some extent; it is more visible on some than others. Nothing to worry about unless it doesn't go back to normal after a few minutes.

I live in central Ohio so it was in the teens last night and the car is not garaged. I only drive 1/2 a mile to work so the car was still cold by the time I got here and it was still happening. I also will only drive a 1/2 mile home heh. So I guess I will have to take a longer drive to see if it goes away. I was guessing that if I took it in they would say nothing is wrong with it. I only have till the 18th on my service warranty though. Mine is a 04 MC stock radio.

alpine(?) didn't include heaters in the LCD so that's why it does that.
once the car's interior is in its normal operation temp (its meaning
the HU's operation temp) the display should return to normal.

interior products should operate within -30C and 65C. (ideally -40 to
+85C) but a lot of times low-end products like HU's have deviations.

This has also happened to mine recently, it was 20-something degrees last night.... I guess I won't worry too much about it since its a cold weather phenomenon.

My advice to you would be to take the car into the dealer & have the problem documented. That way when it does happen all the time, even after the warranty is up you may get some relief.

With a 1/2 mile drive in very cold weather I hope you are changing your oil more than the maintenance minder is telling you. That's some very severe use.

I just got the car last saturday and it has 8k miles on it. I took it in on monday and had they were cool enough to do the 10k mile service or whatever so I had all the fluids changed and the wipers and that. They also found, which I could not see, that some clips on the drivers side wheel hood was broken so they put a new one on. All in all the tech said the car was in "outstanding" condition. Which made me

I have a pure silver 04 MC. I have one pic in my gallery and there was one posted in the 1st gear forum. Now I am thinking mods heh. First I want a shorter antenna. I also love the look of the chrome on the silver. Which is strange because I have never been a big big chrome fan. I was thinking about chrome hood intakes and mirrors. Also would love to hear about what people think of the chrome inside rings and stuff. If they look nice, or if they look cheap/ghetto. I think I will be a regular on these boards for sure.

Sounds like a great car. I haven't seen too many silver ones around here. You will be unique. As far as mods go you are lucky, Outmotoring is just over in New Albany. Drop by & see Aaron have a look at all the MINI goodies in person. He's a good guy to do business with.

You're going to get strong reactions from both the pro and anti chrome camps. I have the chromeline interior and exterior packages and I think they look great. I don't think I'd go much beyond that though!

Does Outmotoring have a "store front"? Can you just stop by whenever and check out the wares?
