How's the engineering and quality of the Mini? I'm used to Series Land Rovers and the last vehicle I purchased was a '95 Discovery which now has 110.000 miles on it. Great vehicle but typcial British quality: leaks a little oil, leaks a little water, etc.

I test drove a 'S" last Friday and was very impressed but after driving slow Landies, I'm easily impressed. But, howz the quality? I know the newer LR's are pretty good but it's been a slow road there.

I'm about 98% of the way there... tell me now to worry about the other 2%!

Almost a convert, hope this help to put you over to the top.so far i have 18000 miles in about 11 month now and i've yet to have a problem. The closest to a problem is the my seats had the old style latches and that was fixed while i was having the oil changed, I do have a MC instead of the S.

After 20,000 miles, I'd say it's closer to BMW quality than MG quality.

15K miles on my MCS....definitely not BMW build quality...but also not BMW price...so obviously some trade offs....

After owning a fair number of British cars previously, I can safely say there is no comparison.....thank God! It definitely leans more towards German quality.

Good deal... thanks to all who replied. I really do appreciate it. We actually put a deposit down on Friday for an S but the wait will be like... having a baby.

There was someone at my wife's office who was driving a white on yellow which is the same color that we want so I'm anxious to see it.

The only options I'm considering is the mulitpurpose steering wheel for cruise and maybe a sunroof. Don't want/don't need much more than that.

Anyone in the PHX-area in the market for a '73 Series III (88" softtop) or a '95 Discovery? That'll leave us with a LR Dormobile which is quite rare in the US and a PT Cruiser which has been a good car too.

Thanks again! Looking forward to hanging out for a long time to come.

My favorite assesment of fine English craftsmanship was from a Carroll Shelby interview a long time ago. He wasn't too impressed with the quality of the bodies and chassis from AC, and said they made by "three winos under a bridge" !!! Ouch!
Not to worry, tho these MINIs are very German in fit and finish. And no Lucas problems!

Why do the British drink their beer warm? Because they have Lucas refrigerators!

Actually, we drink our beer warm because our women are too slow bringing them over!
