I just noticed a little one this weekend, pissed me right the hell off. I was just wondering where most people get them. My crack is right in the middle of the windshield at the bottom.

"ouch"

No cracks, but lots of "chips".
Think the windshield is made from those plastic magnifying glasses that you can find in boxes of cracker jacks.

I feel the factory glass is defective. My windshield looks like it went thru a sand storm. This car has not seen snow or bad weather,it seems the smallest stone leaves it's mark :???: Someday I will call dealer and see what can be done.

Same here. I avoided using my MINI all winter, and now this spring I have chips in the windscreen. Of the aftermarket glass, who's is the most resistant?

there are now a 'bunch" of little ...chips.

kinda looks like the starfiield......screen saver in windows ;(

it just plain sucks.....

i'm real close to taking a hammer to it...and getting a new windshield...as all glass is covered.

Cooperspeed, what you are describing is covered under warranty. Why pay for aftermarket when you can get a new OEM one FREE!? If that one gets pitted, then go spend your money on an aftermarket one. But for now, why spend your money for something you can get for free?!?!

the stress crack is covered under the warranty?
and if so, is the dealer replacing the windshield with a stronger piece of glass?
if this is a common problem are they going to put stonger glass in the newer MINI's?

...speaking from experience...just had my windshield replaced under warranty for the stress crack...

If you suddenly get a crack coming up from the bottom of the windshield, somewhat centered, this is covered under warranty. It is a known issue with certain build dates. Apparently the robot that installs them was **slightly** off for some manufacturing and that lead to the possibility of the stress crack like Cooperspeed is describing. It's so well known that the receptionist at the dealer knew about it and said lots of people have come in with the problem.

It's replaced with OEM glass.

Mine cracked while sitting in the garage overnight. Wasn't even driving at the time. But the more I drove it, the more it continued to crack till it was going at a 90* angle by the time I took it in for repair.

CHIPS-A-HOY
i went into the house for lunch. came out to wash the car and there it was a stress crack running down the windshield (from the middle top) that wasn't there before,
it happened while the car was sitting?
the dealer said that it would be covered by the warrenty (Davbret....you are correct  )
at least i won't have to look at those chips any more, now i can get new ones
