I think you should read your manual, ants ... the 2002 cars had 'em and the 2003's don't ... it's an extra power outlet for things like the plug-in cooler.

The 02's have it and the03's don't. It's a 12 volt accessory outlet. For the MINI beverage cooler or whatever.

My MA told me that it was kind've expensive for something that didn't get the greatest of reviews in the early euro-models.. I think i could find uses for it, especially at tail-gating festivities.. but oh well.

Where would I find this if I had it? I'm asking because my car's production date was 9/6/02, which was like the first DAY of 2003 production, so I don't have the auxiliary audio hokkup in the glovebox, for example. I'd be psyched if I had this.

when you open the boot , looking forward, it would be up on the left side panel (below the top edge of the seatback)

Looking in the boot, it would be on the left, in the plastic molding almost at the height of the rear seat headrests.

And what about this auxiliary audio hookup? This is an '03 thing?

The Aux output is in the glovebox? This Aux output thing gets weirder and weirder. We were really excited about that 12V? outlet in the back because we have a power converter and could put anything we wanted to in the back of the Mini-a mini microwave? Then we got the 2003. I think that I read somewhere that it is hardwired in there but that there is nothing for you to plug it into. Someone was going to try to figure out how to get it up and running.

Wishing for the Aux jack!!!

Anyone with a MCS should be able to easily wire anything you want into the back since your battery is back there. I am going to be putting an inverter back there to run A/C powered things.

If you are not the electrical type, any auto electrical shop should be able to add a 12V outlet in about 15 minutes.

It´s for plugging in your TV, boombox, foreman´s grill... For tailgate parties

Or are those exclusive to pickup trucks?

My wife's VW Passat Wagon has one and I like the option.

I've used it for a 12V powered air compressor. I also carry a 12v powered trouble light.

I would be most grateful if someone with a lighter would post a picture of the wiring connection. If you reach up from the cubby you will find the wire coming off the back of the socket -- I assume it comes straight down and attaches to the wires in the bottom of the cubby. I would like to add a lighter to my '03 and hope that I can wire it in a stock manner.
