Track Day!

Yesterday was opening day for the drag strip(Great Lakes Dragway) so I decided to see what she would run.

first wanted to lose some excess fat! btw, that purse is NOT mine!

times were as follows

__________60' ________1/4 _______trap
run 1 _____2.565 _____14.75 _____96.8
run 2 _____2.5_______ 14.61_____ 94.75
run 3_____ 2.68 ______14.72 _____98.18
run 4 _____2.477 _____14.41 _____99.04

best was 14.4 at 99. for a stock Cooper S + pulley, I'm happy

(stock cooper S runs 15.3 @ 91)

I dont have track times, but just a pulley shaves off more than a second you1/4 mile time? Amazing for a part that weighs less than wrench! Well some....

i was suprised at the increase over stock s(15.5). although, you also have to take into account the weight removed from the car. those couple things probably accumulated to 100lbs.

that is a pretty good time for just a pulley. how long did it take you to take out all of the extra stuff

2 - screws to remove the boot shelf
4 - T-45 torx bolts for the front passenger seat
3 - T-45 torx bolts for the back seat backs

about 15-20 minutes.

if it were your first time, it could take MAYBE an hour

edit: i noticed that this thread was posted after my first track set. I went again and topped my best with a 14.3. that was actually a run a beat an srt-4. I was happy. haha

Somethings you may find interesting Forum>Thread.

I wish I had known, I'd have gone at least to cheer on the other MINI, and may have been convinced to run (after all my only trip thus far the temp was well over 90 degrees).

Have any info on when they have open track again? I know roughly where the track is and thats fairly close to me here in far northern IL.

the track is located in union grove and you're correct, it is not a far shot from norther IL. I believe the only open track times are the openning and closing weeks.

on any other occasion, its a flat $28 to race all night. I am tyring to determine when I will be going back. I have several MINI's already interested in this trip when we go back again. If anyone else in the area is interested, just shoot me a PM or post and ill be sure to keep you posted on when we plan on going back to greatLakes Dragway.

I'll keep an eye out for a thread I much prefer a road course but like to think of the drag strip as an inexpensive dyno as it provides some quantitative #s even if not displaying hp and torque. Also have found there is a very good welcoming crowd at such events.
