R50/53 Things You Didn't Know About Your MINI
A couple of things I have found out when I was dismantling the Mini that I picked up for restoration project.
The front bumper of Justa is more expensive than S model after all the trim pieces and such attached to it. The same bumper cover base is the same price, the justa version has more components than the S like fog light trim rings and one more horizontal trim piece that runs across the bottom of the bumper.
The windshield washer nozzle is heated. There is an electrical connection to it. (at least on mine.)

Things you didnt know
I have not read every page of this thread, but have read many. I have not seen these two items posted.
1. While standing outside your Mini with the door closed, place your hand on the center of the window and open the door. You will feel the window move down as the door is opened. The reverse is true also if you close the door with a hand on the window you can feel the window move up. This is so that the window makes a better seal. It also makes it harder to pry open, as it is seated in the roof.
2. If you have everything locked and you use the hatch button on the fob (05 and 06?) to unlock the hatch it will automatically relock the hatch when closed without having to use the fob. The hatch matches the doors locked or unlocked. I have found that this is one of the only ways to lock the keys in the car (I have done this.) I think the other way is to get out of the car lock all the doors with the key fob and before closing the door throw the keys back in the car. I have not tried this one for obvious reasons, and not sure if it actually works.

Speed sensor
I'm pretty sure on this one...
In the winter, as those of us with a heavy foot often do, I like to spin the tires to see how fast the wheels can spin on ice. Well, oddly enough, when I floored it, and the tires were obviously going crazy, I was only going 14mph, and not increasing.
My take away from this is, I do believe the speed sensor is located on the rear wheel, rather than the "standard" front, or drive wheels as it usual is.
I may be wrong, but either way, it's out there now =p

Edit: OOOPS... I did not realize I posted this in the R50/53 thread! There is the same thread in the R56 section and that is where this needs to be! I'll leave it here because some of this can probably be done on the first gen, but I have no idea about that...
I did not know that all the annoying electronic functions could be customized with a <$30 dollar wire and the instructions posted in the Electrical forum here on NAM. I was able to resolve all the little things that bothered me by coding the options the way I like them. A sample:
- One touch sunroof open and close from the overhead cabin switch instead of having to hold it.
- Hold Unlock on the remote to open windows and tilt sunroof from a distance. Hold lock on the remote to close all.
- Disable constant chiming - from the driver/passenger seat belts, on start up, on door open, when the temperature falls to 37 degrees. So peaceful now! I always wear my seat belt, but in some situations I want to not have it on right away! I also don't need my car to yell at me every time the temperature drops which always makes me think something is wrong for a second.
- Turn on the red Heartbeat LED lights on the tach when the car is locked without having to buy an alarm. It looks awesome and is a good deterrent since it looks like an active alarm.
- Auto door unlock when key is removed from the ignition. Works great with the existing auto locking feature since you don't have to pull on the handle twice.
- Windows can be operated for about a minute after the key is out of ignition. Some Minis have this turned on at the factory but mine did not.
- Always show digital speed on the tach like the newer models. This was not an option on my 2009 but now it is.
- Disable speed overestimation so the speedo is more accurate.
- Enable a setting so that opening a door will not interrupt a window from rolling up.
- Enable a different pattern for hazard lights - it's a cool looking double blink now.
- Disable auto A/C Engagement When Pressing the Auto Button. How annoying is this in the winter? However, it will now retain the settings before you turn the Auto climate system off, so if the AC was on it will come back the next time Auto is pressed and if it was off it will stay off.
- I don't have the Nav, but it allows you to get rid of the Nav system warning which would be great for those that have it.
It took a couple of days to figure it out but it was by far the best mod for the money! Take a look here if any of this sounds interesting to you, but you do need to be comfortable with computers to get into this: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...beginners.html

I'm definitely going to look into how to do this, I'd love some other features in my car. That said, the AC in the wintertime, depending on where you live, is a necessity as it evaporates the extra humidity in the air that fogs up the windows.
Sounds like you have an R56, but if you have an R50/R53 you can accomplish this by pressing the 'Off' side of the button when the system is off. It will retain the settings you had before you turned the system off.
The beauty is that you get to pick and choose every single option and customize the car exactly how you want it. Once you have the right set up on your PC and you know what you are doing, it only takes a few minutes to enable/disable various functions. Options above are the ones that I wanted to change on my car but there are other things you can do as well.
and that only happens in the middle of summer. And yes it gets cold here (utah mountains). That being said, I might need to get me one of those cables
Edit: I edited my first post to show that this is how the AC works now since there is no downside to coding this option in.

Sorry people!
Sorry people!
Saw this a while back. If your windows cease to work...whack the door just above the large speaker. Some how it frees the mechinism. My car is old...so stuff like that helps save money for a while anyway.Have to spend on things that make it run.
Hey Fonzie ... how ya doin ?
We call that "Percussive Maintenance". It only works on our R50/53 models.
