A curious thing happened on the way...
...temps were well below freezing the other day. Overnight the temps rose to about 60 degrees F. I backed my very cold mini out of the garage and as I began to back down the driveway the windshield cracked in two places.
Both cracks eminated from the dash, worked up the winshield about 4" and then ran parallel with the dash for 12". I actually watched this entire even unfold.
Nice

ahhhh the sound of breaking glass.
there's nothing else like it. I cracked my windshield the other day while driving and then Tuls decided he needed to push on it
So, I got to hear the noise again.Yayy...lucky for us we have glass coverage on our insurance

If you take it in they will do the pen test on windshield. This is where they find base of crack and try to find a hit.If they can find one and pen finds pit ,no warranty claim. If the opposite they will warranty.
I just got my windshield replaced under warranty for exactly the same thing. OK, well, I wasn't backing out of the driveway, but it was a stress crack from the corner of the glass.
46,000 miles...no warranty?
The upside? Highway driving leads to sandblasted windows - a million tiny prizms. It will be nice to get rid of those; I drive 42 miles into the sun going to work and then back home. Argh!

I mentioned this event to my glass guy (I live in Colorado, and have replaced my truck windshield several times...so am on a first name basis). He cautioned that the internal clips associated with Mini windshields are quite temperature sensitive and that his shop will not do on-site replacement if the weather is cold. He strongly recommends bringing Minis to the shop for cold weather replacement as the clips can become quite fragile and snap in cold weather. Just a thought. It is weird to watch a crack dance across your windshield, though, ain't it?
