looking for some jackstands, internet/mail order or local retailer..any recommendations?

girots garage has a pair for 49 plus shipping, but they tend to be priced pretty high.

TIA

Griot's stands look nice. A bit pricey, but often with features found nowhere else. I like the feet welded to the base which help prevent the stands from cutting into asphalt driveways.

However, I've supported many a MINI on my 2.5 & 3 ton Craftsman stands in the garage.

I also have a set of 6 ton stands I bought at Sam's Club that have feet like the Griot's stands, but they are a bit too tall for use under the MINI.

I got a combo pack of floor jack and jackstands a while back from Pep Boys, I think it was around $50. Has worked fine for everything I've used it for so far.

It may be a little expensive but I myself am a HUGE fan of Griots products. Iverything i get from them is great, from their waxes and polishes to my own little creation of using a 6 foot strip of their 2 inch clear protection on my rear bumper. I had one on before, and last weekend someone that doesnt know how to parallel park, gouged the plastic layer on my bumper, but when i took it off no damage what so ever to the bumper, sweet!!!! Griots product junkie for life

Unless it was specifically made for griotsgarage, a lot of the products they sell are just re-badged and sold in a different color. For those things you'll
probably want to purchase elsewhere at a lower price (if you have the time),
but everything ive bought from griots so far has been very good.

Im wanting to get a touchless water and soap dispenser...might be able to get those locally for less... or not.

Griots has lots of high quality but expen$ive stuff. As the MINI is a relatively light weight vehicle, I feel comfortable with just about any jackstands. I currently use Craftsman stands that I bought from Sears at a very low price (which ,of course, I can't recall the amount now - OldTimer's disease) during a sale a number of years ago. You can't go wrong with Griots, but you may wind up paying more than you need to.

Considering that jack stands are little more than fancy cinder blocks, I'd get them as cheap as I could and still feel safe.

Probably these sweet aluminum ones from Harbor Freight if I was feeling like spending as much as $40.

Otherwise I'd buy the cheaper steel $20 set. . . .

We looked at each other, put the box back on the shelf, and decided that $25 at Sears or Pep Boys wasn't such a bad deal after all...

Since I have two H-F stores within a reasonable drive from me, I no longer buy anything from them w/o looking at it first.

my HF hydraulic is great, but not sure if i want to go cheap on jackstands and put my life under my car.

even with my Griots stands, i always put my wheels laying sideways under the car just in case it did fail. the wheels would support the car. well, ill probably get pinched with only a 205 width tires and 7.5" rims, but i'll just relax and call my wife from my celphone. (jk, i put thick books on the wheel laying on its side so that it won't ruin the chassis nor wheels).

Likewise, I leave the floor jack just slightly engaged for an added safeguard...

I removed the plastic jack points and put some some duct tape over the holes for now. Having a flat surface, at least for my jack stands, is a better way to go... Not to mention that I lost a couple in an off-road excursion

Which ones do you use? I want to just remove those plastic jack points too.

You know, I don't know the name of the jack stands. I have two different sets that I've had since I was in high school (approaching 40 now), and still use... Actually, they're supporting my MCS right now while some red Loctite cures on a wheel stud conversion...

The tops are no perfectly flat, but definitely cover a broader area than quite a few stands I've seen. The plastic MINI jack points pluck-out easily with a large screwdriver...

Oh, I can visualize that Norm! Very good idea... From you, it doesn't surprise me though .

I still see myself getting a lift someday... just need to complete the garage first .

I am in need of some black stock lug bolts and a couple of stock jack points. Are you selling yours?

My stock lug bolts I believe are not black though... It was late last night, but I recall them being somewhat silver or even goldish in color...And I'd have to go check on my jack points... I think I have only two, as I lost a couple when I went off-road. If still interested, I'll sell. I've sold about 20 things now!

Hockey pucks as lifting pads

I modded these hockey pucks ( $1.00 ea at the local play it again store) to plug into the stock lifting blocks. They distort and conform to the top of my jack stands.
