Ques re: Jacks and Ramps--Help Please!

Got my MINI up on ramps on front end, and now decided I need to raise the rear also. *%$%$#%&* vibration...exhaust rubbing? SS hitting cover?

Started jacking the rear to put jackstands under there, but does the emergency brake only work on the rear wheels? I can't effectively chock the front tires when they're in the ramps...

Is it unsafe to ramp front, jackstand the rear? (obviously, ebrake on,car in first gear)

or does it have to be ramps rear, jackstands front? (I hate jackstands...kinda pia, hope the ramps are good for somethin when I want the whole car up...)

I await good advice!

I did that yesterday to rotate the tires (jacked up the front, put in two stands, then jacked up the back and put two stands there). I'm no expert, but it seemed ok to me.

edit: oops. I misunderstood your question. I've only done ramps and stands the way you have, with ramps in the rear and jackstands in the front.

Thanks Tom...but I have the ramps in the FRONT and was trying to put stands in the rear...I thought I read someone doing that, but I'm a little uneasy...afraid the car isn't chocked or brakes on...

is being in gear enough?

Is this question just too stupid for words????

But no more excuses, its back under the car...think I'll go ahead and try putting the stands in back...if it doesn't seem secure I'll put 'em all down, and put the ramps in back...

if i'm not back in an hour or so call for help (of course sick joke)....

You just put your car in gear (1st or Rev) and your front end will lock.

Be careful though when you are under there.

The safest/best way I've found is to jack up one side of the car at the jackpoint just behind the front wheel. You can then place both jackstands under the car on that side. Then, you go around and do the same on the other side. Of course, this neccessitates having four jackstands instead of using a ramp. It also keeps one front and rear tire on the ground so you don't have to worry about it rolling if you've set the e-brake and left it in gear.

Thanks all...got it done....

only have 2 ramps, and I already had the car on ramps in front when I decided I wanted to jack up the whole thing....redid my exhaust, and checked on my SS while I was there...(and checking the SS meant changing gears, so...I was concerned)...

ended up leaving one rear wheel on the ground, putting one rear on jack stand and leaving the hydraulic there also for backup..shook the car and it was steady--had "plenty" of room, got it done. Drives so much nicer now with the rattles fixed...
