I was a few days ago. No major damage(means I can drive the car). When the appraiser looked at it on a lift my Magnaflow exhaust appears bent and there may be a broken weld on the left side behind the bumper. Fortunately, my dealer is an authorized service center for my insurance company so all I have to do is bring it in.
BTW it was a college kid...I don't know what he was thinking about....
And I don't have anything against college kids!
No dollar figure was given for the repair but I'll post when I know.

Less than 5mph...I saw it coming and took my foot off
the brake which lessened the impact.

Can't wait to hear the final bill, as the insurance testers sure got a healthy bill from their 5-10mph rear-end crash tests. Something like $2k+

...poor little monkey...

I think that being rear-ended is just about my greatest fear while driving the MINI. In 8000 miles, it's almost happened to me twice now. The last time I only avoided it by zipping off onto the right shoulder. The person who (almost) hit me did it RIGHT in front of a cop at a construction site...it's not that she was tailgating (otherwise I'd have been hit for sure), she just didn't see me and wasn't paying attention.

My fear is that the MINI is just too small for some inattentive drivers to see. That doesn't mean that I'm unhappy with the MINI, but it keeps me watching the rearview mirror at just about every light when I'm the last in line.

The monkey was wrapped around the shifter and since I saw it
coming I said 'Hold On' so he is OK.

We just got our car back from being rear ended on Christmas Eve. We were sitting still, total damage was almost $3K.

So sorry to hear about the rear end crunch. :???:

I have the feeling every day that I'll be rear ended because I can stop so much faster than many other cars. I always try to stop slowly so others behind me have time to react, but I read that this is not what happened to you. Good thing you could take your foot off the break and not have a car in front of you.

2Minis,
Really sorry to hear about your car. At least it was in the rear though. One of my friends who buys up salvage cars and sells them for parts said the worst cars are front end collisions. That is where engine internals can be partly damaged and you may not have problems till sometime down the road.

Perhaps doing the modification to the rear fog lights to use them as added brake lights might get drivers attention behind you. Maybe this would help. Then again maybe not, as more and more people are talking on their cell phones, they just don't pay enough attention to their driving.

Whiplash!!!!! Whiplashhhhhhhhhhh! oh the PAIN!

Just a reminder. Don't fake whiplash. It didn't work on the Brady Bunch.

Glad to see you're ok, or at least back to "normal".

nomo...
fortunately...it is his insurance company that is taking a hit.
If it was mine...it might go on a back burner for a bit.....
hopefully, from what my insurance company said, my rates
won't be affected because I was stopped....

I wonder if driving with the headlights on at all times would help. Obviously, it wouldn't do anything for rearend accidents, but maybe it would make us feel safer and perhaps more visible overall.

Defensive driving is an absolute MUST in the MINI. I have been known to talk on my cell phone while driving my truck (not in heavy traffic), but once the MINI arrives, I will not be doing that anymore. Gotta be on the lookout for others not paying attention. I'm really glad the MINI handles so well, so if we have to make any quick moves, she'll be able to respond. NINJA MINI!!!

Sorry to hear about your accident. What a bummer to be without her while she's away at the hospital. Withdrawal sucks.
