I am the proud owner of a used 05 MC. I just got to say I love this little car. I have two questions for everyone. I noticed that the Passenger side air bag light turn on when I start the car and it says its off. How do I turn it on(Not saying that plan on using it but just in case). Second question since I got the car used should I expect to get free oil changes??? I heard that these mini's are suppose to get that kind of service or am I just crazy?

Did you buy the car from a dealer or private sale?

Being a 2005, your car should have a good balance left of the factory warranty coverage, including, the free maintenance (3 years/36K miles which ever occurs first) and the 24/7 roadside assistance.

Call MINIUSA and give them your car's VIN serial number. The transfer should be immediate and free of charge

As for the airbags, all MINIs built since January 2005, have "Active/intelligent" airbag system. The light you see up in the headliner confirms the functioning/activation deactivation of the passenger airbag.

I have an October 04 2005 model MCS and I dont have a passenger air bag light as far as I can tell.... I have seen some cars with this light up in the headliner near the rear view mirror.... I have two lights, and a microphone or maybe internal alarm sensor. (I don't have the alarm package)

Do I have the "Multiple Restraint System 5" ?

Do I have the OC-3 mat sensors in the passenger seat ?

Is there a way to manually disable the passenger airbag and if so, how would I know it is disabled ?

No you don't. Did you read my post, plus the "advanced airbags" link?

MINIs built prior to January 2005 will not have advanced airbags with passenger seat sensors built in.

You have the first gen airbag systen (Dual stage).

 

but it did not seem that this LED is brand new but a varient of what has been around before.... The link made no mention of any previous setup, and your post did state that the indicator was new (but I did not read your post well... went straight to link)

Thanks for explaining it... I have seen a lot of coopers but keeping it straight about what the model year is and the interior airbag setup the car has - is not something I have been able to do...

So before Jan 05 - there never was an airbag disable feature then and no indicator. I thought there was different indicator and method.

I got the car at Carmax with 750 miles on it for $21,799. I might have gotten screwed on the deal but it was exactly what I was looking for.

I am already called BMW to inform them but I will call Miniusa also.

Thanks for the info in the airbags. I feel alot better now. The only think missing in the car is the owners manual and floor mats.

I don't know the full story on it. I asked the dealership guy but he didn't know anything about it. They shipped it from another store for me. I found it on their site on a Tuesday and drove it off the lot Friday. It was funny we went for a test drive and then parked near the entrance and another couple stated if I didn't take it they would. Like I said I love this car!!!
