R50/53 Seatbelt Flapping Solution?
Seatbelt Flapping Solution?
OK I searched and could not find any solutions to the seatbelt flapping and making noise when both windows are down and the passenger seat is empty. I know I could reach over and buckle the belt, but that is a pain in the butt. There is a little plastic thing on the belt that I can move, but I can't find a spot where it makes no noise.
I've been having this same problem....that's what I love about this forum, eventually every thought I have about my car gets brought up here. I also thought it might look a little dorky driving around with the seatbelt buckled and no passenger.
I put the belt height at the top setting, and slide the stop almost all the way up - to about the bottom of the height slide area. 99% of the time it's fine. I also have the passenger seat slid so the back is even with the B pillar.
Mine flapped for a while and then one day I think it just got tired and stopped. You just have to drive more.

Try this:
Put a piece of velcro on the little limiter (plastic thing that slides on the belt under the "male" fastener), put the corresponding piece (mate) of velcro on the "B" pillar about where you have your limiter, vertically.
When there is nobody using the seat, just gently press the limiter against the velcro and it'll hold.
This sounds way more complicated than it really is, BTW.
Many SUVs have setups like this for their back seats so you can fold the rear seats without snagging the belt.
Happy motoring!

I wrap it around the headrest. Bit difficult, but fixes the problem. The bolster idea sounds good, I'll have to try it.
I *think* MINI sells a clip to attach to the headrest that brings the belt forward. Anyone have one?
01 BELT HOLDER KOMPLETT 1 52300302484 $31.37 See PI SZ_082_10_03
Seems a bit pricey.

On the '05s buckling it keeps the passenger side airbag from going off too. Less damage in case of an accident

I don't buckle it simply because it looks dorky, and then when someone has to get in, they have to unbucle it first. Or I have to buckle and unbuckle it everytime I get in. That's just kind of stupid to me. It's bad enough that I have to reposition the stop after someone was sitting there.
If there was just a small lip like a curved ramp, something to redirect the airflow just over the belt surface, that would do the trick. If they would have molded this into the B-Pillar cover it would have fixed it.

it's worse in a convertible with the roof open. If you don't have the back belts positioned just right they bang against the plastic on the sides of the seats. So loud the other day I thought I had run something over.

If I roll up the windows, then I gotta turn on the A/C, and I'm back down to 23 MPG!
