RE: RIP MINIfini

Since I cannot respond to the the matching thread in the Vendor Announcments, I will start a new one here.

We plan on buying out most of the rest of their inventory which will be a handful of tow links, cup links and some bike racks. After its gone, that's it unless they end up finding a new buyer, which at this point is iffy.

...anyways, as soon as we physically get the inventory we will put a note here. MINI has a bunch of sport links and bike racks but NO tow links or cup links, based on my understanding.

No Ski racks will make it to the market at this point.
This is really unfortunate. The sportlink system is quite nice. OutMotoring, you will have a PM shortly.

That's too bad. I guess this voids the warranty on my cup-holder....which I like a lot.

I think MINI did their part to get rid of them. In recent years they came out with their own versions of the Cupholder, center armrest, etc.

MINIFINI was in trouble from a long time ago. Sad to see them go, but business is business....

Are you referring to the long delays in product releases or something else? Just curious.

Product delays + Lost sales. Also some of their stuff was quite pricey and only available thru MINI dealerships.

Gotcha.

  • Pricey, yes.
  • Limited availability, yes.
  • Quality design, yes.
  • Lost sales - I suppose that cupholder switch was a pretty big hit. But I don't think dealerships are selling nearly as many MINI roof rack systems as they are Sport Link systems. I don't think they ever sold a lot of armrests.

Over the big picture, the cup holder was probably the bread and butter product. Let's face it, the VAST majority of people don't install anything to tow or haul with, nor do most people install an aftermarket armrest. I see barely a fraction of a percent of vehicles of ANY kind, let alone a Mini, with a bike rack on the back, or specialty towing system. I have yet to see a single Mini in person towing - just some pictures on the internet. For that matter I have yet to see an installed Sportlink or any attachment. Even factory backed idea like the VW Trek stuff is very rare an unused. I think I saw 2-3 of those when it was at it's peak.

All I know is that I love the SportLink and I am glad that I have one. Anyonw who was thinking about getting one should do so soon. Otherwise you will have to put in on the roof. Thats no fun, especially when mudd from your bike lands on your ride.

Thank you MiniFini

Hmmm...I still have a brand-new-in-the-box minifini cupholder. Should I hermetically seal it so it will be worth big bucks in 10 years?

WOW I am glad I got my sportlink when I did. Should I be nervous about it getting broken? The design seems to be very sturdy so I think it should last a long time.

Yes, I am glad I purchased my SportLink at the end of the MINIFINI life -- in July. Just in time, I guess. I do love it and I am glad that I only procrastinated as long as I did.

On the Tow Link, a MINI buddy here in San Antonio has one and he loves it.

I've been borrowing my buddies Bike Rack for my Sport Link--we've swapped back and forth depending on need, but upon hearing MINI Fini's demise, I ordered my rack from Classic MINI. So that's on it's way now. I love the Sport Link--it's one of the slickest aftermarket items--well designed and crafted. The biggest cost was in installation but I did my own install and writeup on it, and wasn't hard.

I'm considering getting a Tow Link as well--always thought it would be cool to tow a motorcycle trailer on the back of the MINI for long hauls or maybe a littleguy trailer for the Dragon.

When I talked to Classic yesterday, they said the BMW warehouses still had plenty of stock, but I'd ****** it up while they are still plentiful!

Very sad!!!

Richard
