Unbelievable: $400 for a piece of fabric!

Has anyone had this ridiculous problem? The rolling shade for my sunroof snapped. I can't believe how bad the problem is. The fabric got caught in the rail and ripped right out! Why does MINI have to make it that way? I went to the dealer. They want $200 for a piece of fabric! And the install? I couldn't believe my ears. $400!! I left the dealer without the stupid shade. I'm so mad right now that I'm wondering if I should just get a knife and cut the rest out. I don't see how it'll hurt the water seal but my big problem is the stupid metal spring on the right side. How do you remove that? It's a very flimsy strip of metal and I can't yank it out. What would I have to unbolt to remove it?

I do not intend to replace the pathetic shade. It can't be worth an outrageous $600 altogether. I wouldn't wish this on my childhood enemies. I am done with this pathetic brand and will never drive another once this car bites the dust.

We won't miss you.

Sorry to sound harsh, but it's a BMW and it comes with BMW pricing when we're talking about parts and, well, labor rate. Labor time for a lot of things are established by the manufacturer, so when they look in the system, they know how long it will take. If Mini quote 3-4 hours, that's what they'll tell you.

The front shade for the Clubman can be purchased here and rear here (not sure which you need), little less than the $200 they quoted you.

Surprise......parts and labor from a MINI/BMW are expensive.

This is the first time I have ever heard of one of those sun shades ripping apart....maybe you need to be a little easier on things

That's nothing, wait till your DSC pump ***** the bed $1900 for the entire unit or $900 for the repair kit. This does not iinclude labor for replacement and coding.

The nutty part is these parts seemed like they were 20% cheaper back in April. I'm not sure why MINI jacked up the price

Here's another LOL WTF Someone's boat payment is late part. The only reason I think it's so expensive is because it's been revised to fix a rattle (made thicker)

The part should really be no more than $18.95, but they gotta have $38.81

Same things happened at the end of the gen1....
Parts is short supply go up...
Ones with lots on the shelf drop in price....
MINI/BMW needs to keep a minimum level of parts on the shelf in some European countries after a car is built for xnumber of years....
So basic inventory management...... Gen1 JCW exaust were pretty cheap for a few months...cheaper than stock...
Keep your eyes open for deals...

I had to replace the rear side window chrome trim piece on the side of my 2011 Jetta TDI Sportagen, dealer wanted $350 for the part.

Seems like my air-cooled 911 has been cheaper to maintain versus the VW.

Meanwhile my friend wants to replace the sport exhaust on his 2001 911 (996) and price has jumped to $9,000, 1/2 the value of the car!
