body color dash

Is it possible to get an electric blue dash with anthracite down tubes? (is that what they are called, down tubes?) I love the electric blue but the light gray tubes and door pulls look too light to me.

My car is already scheduled for production. Right now I'm getting the anthracite dash, but I really like the body-color dash and there may still be time to change that detail.

thanks in advance for any information!

Ask the dealer, but I am afraid that the body color dash is saddled with the crappy and scratch prone silver door pulls and dashboard center tubes.

This is one of the reasons when I ordered my '05 CR/W MCS I did not get the Chili Red dash trim. I went with anthracite dash/door trim and don't regret it for a minute

For 2006, the body color dash is now a $200 option. Another reason why to avoid it!

Pretty sure the anthracite bits are only for an anthracite dash.

I wonder how much it would cost to get replacement anthracite downtubes
and door handles and just swap them. I know that it's not that big of a job.

I agree, you can't go wrong with anthracite.

It wouldn't hurt to ask! Thanks for the idea

It is hard to do (But doable) because the door pulls are "soldiered" into the actual door card.

Just buy the electric blue dash parts separately. About $200 from Classic MINI. IMO this give you the best of all combinations. By speccing the car in anthraciite, you start with all the other trim (such as on the door) in the better looking anthracite.

Is there an faq on replacing the dash fascia?

Thanks.

The body-colored dash looks good, but this is a mod you don't need to rush into because the antracite interior looks really good. IMHO it's way better looking than any other interior (except maybe carbon fiber).

Anthracite

Does the anthracite option include the door pulls?

Yes, including the door card trim oval surround. Get it, is gorgeous!

Heres a pic I took last night of the anthracite interior in my '06. Personally, I considered the blue, but I thought it was just too much. Didn't like the blue trim on the doors. I'm considering buying the kit though and just doing the dash.

I actually like the Hyper Blue dashboard. But I much prefer anthracite trim over all the other color dash options. It looks the business IMO.

When I ordered my '05 MCS, I toyed with the idea of the Chili Red dashboard. It looks very nice, but I wasn't sure I would be happy still looking at a red dashboard + door trim panels months down the road.

My advice is to look at them in person at your MINI dealer. Photos sometimes don't do enough justice.

Is this kit for the dash an actual replacement or is it a stick-on? I'd like to change the gray (silver?) dash for chili red.

It's not really a kit, they are the dash replacement parts (not stick-ons). You would purchase parts 1, 2, and 3 in the following diagram (for a 2005/2006):

The part numbers are listed here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...71&hg=51&fg=30

I am glad that I got the matching dash.

I originally wanted the gray interior and thought that the red dash etc. would be too much, but I went ahead and did the deal, as the price was right.

Now when I look at the all gray interior……boring. But to each their own.

If you're going for a body-colored dash after the fact, you could also just get your existing dash pieces painted. Not sure if it's cheaper or more expensive than ordering the painted dash from MINI but it's an option.

My dash was painted by my dealership before I picked the car up in 08/03 and I decided later on to have the downtubes painted to match. The color matches perfectly and there are no scratches to be seen anywhere after over 2 years of daily driving.

Lordoftheflies has recently painted two dashboards so he should be able to give tips on removing the dash pieces.
