R50/53 Garage door opener option
Garage door opener option
Instead of shelling out for the order form #319 Universal Garage Door Opener for $200, I chose the aftermarket Flash2Pass Remote System costing $47. It is a transmitter module that you simple wire to your left headlight Hi Beam wire and attach the receiver to your grages interior receiver. Once you have done that, all you do is stroke your steering column hi-beam stalk twice, and if you are within 200 feet of you door receiver, the door will open. No need to carry around a door opener. $10 option...
Howdy,
My solution to getting rid of the garage door "visor wart" was this..
The first challenge was to hide the remote in a functional location. I found there was enough space above sunroof switch behind the black plastic trim. I used some Velcro to keep the reomte from sliding when cornering
and still make battery replacement easier in the future.
Before the final install, I connected a short run of wire between a separate small button (the push to activate kind) and the contacts on the remote. By mounting the reomte in this location, the easiest place to put the button was through the vented opening on the opposite side (I think this is the location for the microphone if you have the Bluetooth phone option). Depending on the button size, one can cut away some of the vent ribs to allow the button to be mounted right to that small plastic panel..
I have been using this for over a year now with no problems.. And if you don't know the button is there.. It is practically invisible..
For what its worth... Enjoy
Edited - added pics...
1st one is the viewed TOWARD the rear view mirror
2nd one is viewed AWAY from the rear view mirror

Even better, for about the same price, you can get an "Auto-up Module" from Ian Cull, attach your garage door opener AND get auto up windows!
No connection, just a very happy customer!

I have also been looking for something to replace my TWO garage remotes. I have Homelink in my other vehicle and love it. The Homelink mirror for the MINI is only available for 2005 models so that isn't viable for me.
I've purchased a couple of used Homelink modules (2 different models) and installed one with no luck so far. I am gonna try the other one when I get the time.

"Auto-Up MINI circuit" can be ordered with two garage door opener circuits.
Ian Cull's "Auto-Up MINI circuit" solves the annoyance of having to hold the window toggle switch up to close windows in a MINI - especially troublesome with a manual transmission when pulling away from a toll booth in wet weather!
You can order versions with BOTH track mode DSC and garage door opener, or with two garage door openers.
