Hello All
I'm new to this board having just bought a used MC. It is velvet red and that is the only option on the car. Having read throught the owners manual and tried searching older posts I can't seem to find the answers to my questions. So here goes.

The owners manual refers to a brake fluid change clock on the service indicator. Does this exist? I've tried the instructions to no avail.

Why 175/65/15 tires? the optional tires are are 195/55/16 and 205/45/17. These have a dia of 24.5 inchs while the 175's are about 23.75 inches. Doesn't this affect the speedometer accuracy?

It states when the next service should be when the car is started up on the same bit as where the mileage is.

RK,
Based on the information you have given if the color is your only option, I am going to say that you do not have the ability to see that information. I believe that your car does not have an onboard computer thus you won't be able to see all those nifty features mentioned in the manual.

As BoyRacer mentioned you will be able to see the countdown to service, but that's about it.

I don't have a boat load of packages on mine either, so I know that much.

Congrats on becoming a MINI owner!! Too bad you weren't able to get a run down on all ofthe features from a dealer, but if you ever have questions, call up your closest dealer, or just post another message here. There are so many helpful people on this board, that you will bound to have every question answered.

When you start the car the Service Indicator will show up prior to displaying the odometer. This is the amount of miles left on your car before you need to go to the dealer for your "free" servicing. (Your service warrenty covers 3 years/36,00 miles, your vehicle warrenty is 4years/50,000miles, and a 6-year/unlimited-mileage warranty against rust and corrosion perforation.) When you go in, they will reset the service indicator, change your oil, replace your windshield (screen) blades, and do any additional service that is required, including the break fluid if that is needed. Most of the time, you won't. Once again welcome to the site, and welcome to motoring!

MC

The on-board computer only gives information on outside temp., avg. Speed, avg. MPG, and miles left until you run out of gas. No info on servicing is given.

When turning the car on the odometer will display the service countdown mileage for a few seconds before switching to the actual mileage of the car. This is for service interval overall - not just brake fluid. Hope this helps.

For further clarification...when you first start your car, look on the speedometer and where the odometer usually is, it will show the miles remaining until the next service and the words "oil service". After having this service at around 10,000 miles, the next service will also have a picture of a clock to tell the dealer to change the brake fluid. The manual cautions that if you store your car with the battery disconnected that you should change it at the two year mark regardless.

Didn't I read in my manual that if you hold down the trip meter reset button at startup the readout will be the number of miles (or kilometres for us Canucks) until break fluid change?

I too went the limited option pkg. I wanted to keep the car as basic as possible yet functional. I don't have the trip computer either. KISS rule on my Cooper S... Keep It Simple Stupid.

Less stuff in the car = Lighter Car
Less Stuff in the car = Less stuff to break
No Sunroof = Stiffer Body & better handling

When you turn the key to the "on" position it will tell you how many miles to the next svc. The owners service manual log should tell what services happen at each interval, and your dealer should service accordingly.

Congrats on your Mini!
If you're like the rest of us, you will become a Miniac (Another MCO members term... So true!)

Search the MCO forums by keyword for what you are looking for. There are many posts on all kinds of stuff here at MCO. It's the place to be if you are a "Miniac"

PS: Watch out for the monkey ! He's our resident jester.

2Mini's ---- I like the one with the monkey on the toilet. That needs to be your / MCO's welcome signature.
