Eguin has a new booboo....I feel stupid! Backup sensor warning!!!

Well, I just got a new dimple on my back bumper. Backing up into my parking spot at work, I stupidly relied on my back up sensor. The damn thing never went of and I ended up running into the car behind me. Now I have a perfect imprint of the license plate screw in my bumper.

Got out of the car without shutting it off to inspect the damage. Pulled the car forward and reversed again, more carefully this time. Sure enough, the sensor is not making any noise. Turned the car off and on, tried it again and now the sensor works. I am just really pi$$ed at my self for letting a gadget replace my common sence and driving skills.

I feel your pain.

Definitely mention it to your dealer next time you bring it in. There may be an error code stored in the computer indicating that it wasn't working.

Don't feel bad the media had it all over it when Ralf Schumacher(F1) switched to Toyota, he ended up damaging 3-4 cars as the Toyota's did not have the distance sensor on their cars.

That's the thing... It's not big enough to make it worth fixing it. I'll have to wait to pick up some more road rash/parking lot/id10t damage. I know for a fact it will need to be repainted and I really don't fell like spending $200 on a small scratch. I guess I'll have to live with it for a bit.

But thank you all for your concern. I think I intended my post to be more of a warning regarding the back up sensors than anything else.

P.S. By the way Clo.. love the new sig.

You could take it to the dealer asap and show them how it is not working and explain it is the reason the car got damaged. You never know, maybe they will fix the bumper since the damage is directly related to equipment failure (you can omit the part about not looking in this case perhaps ). It wouldn't likely cost them much and would be a great customer relations move - couldnt hurt to see how they handle it anyway.

I'll be curious to hear the reason for it failing, please let us know.

Bumper covers

The dealership probably has lots of bumper covers around as take-off's from Aero kit installs.

They can be had on Ebay in every conceivable color very cheaply.

It is working now. It did not work during that particular moment. Plus, I can see the dealer argument right now: "Supplemental safety equipment is not meant to replace due caution." I would tend to agree. Just because we have air bags and antilock brakes, it does not mean I can throw caution to the wind and tail gate people at 120 mph. I do see this as my respnsibility. Also, since I know how much a repair like that should cost, it would simply not be cost effective for me personally to waste time arguing with a dealer.

All that being said. I do plan to bring this up and have it checked out next month when I take my car in for service. Will most asuradly keep everyone posted on this.

P.S. I do believe I inadvertantly have aquired a Lucas module, which is now rearing it's ugly head in both the Mini in my Audi (intermitent air bag light that conviniently dissappears as soon as I get to the dealer)
