hey everyone, (where is katie hiding?) did a bit of research this past week '(I'm a weekend bike ;read bicycle, shop employee ,which incidently is how my MINI is being financed   ) the thule (brand name) 965 "bakpac" is an awesome rack, more stable by far than a standard rear strap type rack, however that old spoiler issue is back. the top semi rigid straps hook onto the top edge of the hatch, which is where the spoiler bulge starts. ( will deform rubber gasket) Anyone looked into installing a receiver hitch? ugh...why didn't I just get the factory rack doh! motor on....(apologies to chef) Dave

Dave, Have you seen the thule rack installed on a cooper? I don't have a spoiler so thats not a problem for me. Also, do you know anything about the yakima mighty joe?

Good morning Clubbers It's a very beautiful day in Detroit today. Fully sunny, and a scalding 47F I timed it once, it's 20 seconds from push-button to toasted-booty, sweet! I'm not even out of my driveway and my seat is already warm, mmmmmm nice.

What happened to the F.M.A.'s? #5 is next!

Motor-on,

Here's a new parking rule. Find an old retired friend who has to much time on her hands.
Plus she's British!

Ok, it's been awhile since I've been around, and I know my OWLA is late. I don't want to bring you all down, but my Dad's health took a sharp decline last week and he passed away on Sunday. He's in a much better place now.

I hope this doesn't seem shallow, but I've found that my MINI has been a great escape the last few days. I truly loved my Dad, and what I know about cars, I learned from him, so I think he'd appreciate my motoring forays to get away at times. That being said, I'd like to relate two F.M.A.s that I picked up while driving back and forth from the nursing home with my siblings.

F.M.A. # 5

Cloverleaf Coaster
While heading back late Friday night, going under a highway underpass with a full fourway cloverleaf interchange, I abruptly (to my sister's surprise) took the ramp to enter the highway, downshifted, and started accelerating. I then immediately exited the highway, the entered, then exited, then entered, then exited, . . . I think you get the idea. I don't have the supercharger, but I definitely heard a crescendoing 'WHEEEEE'. I think it was my sister. Ramps at 60 to 70 until we got dizzy was a great release of stress.

F.M.A. # 6

Construction Barrel Slalom

*** This should only be attempted with extreme caution, at your own risk, and definitely not while construction workers are present. Respect life, your's and other's ***

While heading home late Saturday night, with my other sister, we approached a stretch of road under construction, with the right line closed and blocked off by those LARGE ORANGE barrels. These barrels seemed to have been placed at JUST the proper spacing to entice MINI owners into attempting manuevers they might not otherwise try. I'm sure you see where this is going, and that is just where it went. Much to sister #2's surprise, a quick jog right, a quick jog left, back and forth for about a dozen barrels, and then back to driving normally like nothing happened. Gave my brother, behind me in Mom's Park Avenue, quite the chuckle!

T J,
So sorry to hear the news of your father. I am sure many CWFACers will keep you in our prayers and thoughts. Take care of yourself and family and we look forward to seeing your posts once again. I think it is wonderful that you can honor your dad through motoring and am sure he is proud and will be grinning from above upon you.

Truly sorry to hear about your Dad MiniSail. I am sure he is fondly watching you have fun in the MINI; he taught you well. My Dad taught me about cars also. But nothing about sports, which my son is teaching me.

Your OWLA was a hoot. I really enjoyed it, and agree.

Now to find some barrels to barrel through..................

Red

What's up guys. Got some good news and bad news on my mini.

Bad news first: Looks like there was more damage than expected on my cooper. MA said that they found more sturtural damage when they went to repair the roof. So that means i won't be getting my cooper out of VDC. So i am offically saying R.I.P. to TD66360 (i didn't even get to name him!!)

Good News: Since all this B.S. is really frustrating me, and my MA understands this. They are willing to give me ANY mini that they find from any dealership for the price my mini cost. They already offered me a Electric Blue S w/ Premium/Sport/ and Leather. I would have taken it, but it didn't have a MFSW or the HK. They are in the process of ordering a bunch of minis from another dealership and i have first dibs on all the S models. I think i'm going to do that instead of reordering another one and waiting 2 to 3 more months. A fully loaded S for the price of what i am going to pay is a steal.

So with all that said, i guess i won't be getting my mini in April....but you know what, that's fine w/ me. I know i'll still be part of this great club and have all you guys as great mini buddies. So here's to my motoring future...cheers!!

Jeremy

P.S. I'll keep you guys posted when i find out what my choices are. Looks like i'll be the last graduate after all...

keep us posted on your soon-to-be-over Drama!
Cheers,

Go chef, go.

Meet you back here tomorrow night with pictures....

Hey, what time do you think you'll get to SA, TX tomorrow?

I'll be in SA, TX around 11 a.m. and don't have anything to do until 1:00 p.m.

If you're gonna be around, I'll PM you my cell phone... good for fraternal MINI owner to meet whenever possible!

Happy Motoring!

Ok, y'all...finally home and able to catch up on the thread...

TJ--I want you to know that my thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. I'm glad that you have great memories to keep and your family around you. Keep your Dad in your heart and a smile nearby...he will live on in you!

Jeremy--I was sad to hear of TD66360's demise, feel like my MINI lost an older brother. I'm glad to hear that the dealer is treating yu so well...another wait would be rough. Does it look like you will be able to get close to your original choices??

Oh and btw, in case I hadn't mentioned it, I'M GETTING MY MINI TOMORROW!!!!!

I have one little tweak that I did a few days ago, but just now thought of snapping a pic I'm an Oakely *****, and have many, many Oakley products, therefore I feel that it is appropriate that I "show my colors" by adding a nice tasteful "O" to the MINI:

All - I appreciate the thoughts and kind words. They do help.

Chef - You know, I think something's going on tomorrow, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Can you help me out here?

Jeremy - Truly sorry to hear about the demise of your MINI. I truly believe in destiny, and that the right MINI will soon be there for you.

Godspeed -

T J, I add my condolences to those already expressed. Your father sounds like a great man who will be missed, but left part of himself in you.

Jeremypro, Looking forward to seeing you your drama plays out. Must be fun getting to check out all of the possibilities.

Chef, Go get-em! Congratulations!

Great looking Mini Sock. I love my black roof!

FMA#6 This could also be classified as a dma (dumb motoring activity) but I like it. I always keep my digital camera handy and love to shoot pictures while driving. Pics of twisty roads, scenery, other minis or great looking cars. It's also fun to shoot the speedo doing cool things. I would also be fun to photograph the faces of passengers while hitting a cloverleaf going to fast. Imagine their shock when they realize that you are not only going to fast, but you are taking a picture of them while doing it.

FMA #7 The nearest Mini dealer to my home is 50 miles. The nearest BMW dealer is only 2 miles. Drive your Mini to your local BMW dealer who doesn't have minis and park right in front of the showroom, then go to the parts department. When I did this last week, they couldn't figure out what to do. Go look at it? Ignore it? I could tell they were interested, but not willing to show it.

Have a great day all of you.

ANdy

Jeremy,
Good luck in finding the perfect S. Hopefully things will work out to where you get one that is the same color as your ordered one with some extra goodies. If it is equipped the same, make sure you get your MA to throw in lots of accessories to make up for the trauma you are going through.

Regards,
