This is what happens when people take life just a little too serious.

The picture of the XC9000 does resemble a MINI. I think he needs to chill out. It's only a car. No matter how much he loves his Mini.

That is so incredibly sad... I can't believe people can be so ignorant and callous-minded.

...Their loss.

Thankfully not all classic Mini drivers subscribe to this philosophy.

I will never understand why some people have to take some things so very seriously. There are probably several Mini owners that don't like the MINI, but I think most of them respect it. Even if they don't why waste so much energy hating something like this? I am not a bleeding heart liberal type person, but this type of mentality is what leads to all of the violence and hate in the world

I think it is a little silly to be so concerned with a car you do not like, but when I first saw this site a couple years ago, I sent away for the sticker!

I have a Land Rover Defender 90, one of only a couple thousand ever brought into this country and DOT safety laws ensure that nothing like it will ever make it to these shores again.

The newer fancy SUV's that Land Rover sells are a far cry from the rugged agrucultural/military/industrial off road vehicle that the Defender is. The only thing close that I could buy today is a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, but I simply do not care that my rare vehicle is no longer in production for the North American market, as long as FORD keeps making parts for it!

He's not alone - there are plenty of classic owners who feel that way. I just wish that if he was going to talk about the new MINIs in a negative way, he would atleast use facts instead of... well.. nothing.

Something About Human Nature

I find the thread interesting. I will bet when the '07 model comes out, there will be people who will be doggedly loyal to their supercharded MINI (Me probably being the first in line). It just seems that people attach a bit too much self worth to earthly loyalties such as their car, the sport team in their hometown...

I just think it is funny in a bit of a sad way that someone spends so much of their energy putting something down, instead of finding the joy in life. I bet his Mini probably brought a lot of joy originally. I know that the MINI has brought a lot of JOY to the current generation of owners.

Anyways, I will not waste energy worrying how others view me in my MINI. I am happy!

Too bad, so sad...

Its just sad when you have to hate something that someone else has, in order to make what you have worthy of love. I'm no psychologist, but I think there must be some basic sense of inadequacy behind that. I love my new MINI without having to hate the original. I wouldn't mind having one of them too someday.

You don't even have to wait for the 07 models for some of us to claim superiority over the rest.

As many of you know, the REAL sport suspension plus was discontinued on the New MINI's in May of 2003. All of you that got your MINI's after that are driving around in MINI's that are little more than a faint shadow of a REAL New MINI! Heck, some of you out there do not even know that a real multifunction steering wheel has 2 spokes and not 3!!!!

And don't even get me started on the topic of the newly offered LSD option that REAL New MINI's would never want to have inside the drivetrain!

Fortunately, I am among the group of new MINI owners that are driving a REAL NEW MINI.

So if you hate all the new options of newer new MINI's as much as I do, come visit my new website www.ihatethenewnewminis.org

IMO IHateTheBMWMINI.org is a hilarious spoof of the few classic Mini owners that resent the new MINI, and I’m amazed at the response that it has gotten here in NAM. It appears that for some their new MINI is more important that a firstborn child!

A car is many different things to different people!
For many a car is nothing more than a magic box that transports people and things from point A to point B with very little effort.
For some a car is a reflection of their perceived personality.
For others a car is a toy that let’s them fill their hobby needs.
For others …… well, the list is almost endless.
It is only for a very few that a car model assumes the status of a religion.

BTW, John Bullas, the owner of IHateTheBMWMINI.org is also the owner of the new MINI mailing list on Yahoo.

A spoof? Ya think? That'd make me feel a lot better about whoever's gone to the trouble of creating the site. I'd much rather think it was done from humor, than from some kind of anamosity. I thought the general response was more of a sad figurative shaking of the head, than an uproar. Personaly, I'm to happy with my MINI to be very upset about what anyone has to say.

Here is the interesting thing..

It is odd.

I purchased my MINI because I knew it was made by BMW. I would not have considered it otherwise. I know that may be fighting words in some parts. I just want the confidence that the car will be around and working for a long time to come. BMW gives me that confidence. Perhaps it is because I have had such great luck with my BMW motorcycle that I love them so much.

Sure I don't like the cup holder either--though it certainly is nice for my Treo 650 but I think BMW has put quality and confidence into this brand.

Am I wrong?

Yeah, you might be right, Mark. Lots of people take joy in saying that they're getting a brand new BMW for $20,000+. And BMW does have the reliability behind it; it's just quality German engineering. And also, I too intended my response as a sad shake of the head, not an uproar. It's sad that people can get so worked up about something like this. I agree, I'd rather it be a spoof as well.

No, you are not wrong, Mark. While I always liked the classic Mini, when I learned about BMW's involvement in bringing out the New MINI, it was very reassuring to me, too! 6 standard airbags calmed any fears I had about going from my ol' Isuzu Trooper (which has ZERO airbags) to my first MINI.

And for Yucca's info: the new, softer suspension began with the Jan. '03 builds, not May '03! I should know...my Wanda was a March '03 build and is waaaay cushier than Yucca's Nov. '02 build 2003 MCS.

My first impression of this site is that it looks like a 9 year old put it together. Just really bad web design. My next impression was, "Oh, it's just another dumb *** with an ignorent agenda on the internet." Nothing remarkable there. All the folks who say MINIs aren't really British, really can kiss the fattest part of my ***. I'd like to see them go to Cowley and tell a few of the plant workers who assemble the MINI that it's not British. While they're at it I suggest they insult the plant worker's favorite soccer team.
