Interesting eBay Ad

Should be fun watching where this Ad goes, no pun intended

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...955904809&rd=1

P.S. Didn't know where this would fit best, so mods if needed just move it.

sounds like a quick way to make 45,000 per car. So you basically get the car paid for AND some money for living expenses for that month. If this works we should set one up as well.

The auction itself is pretty unexplained. I mean who pays for gas and food and hotel?

$230,000 stratring bid for what.

I've still got a few mountain top lots for sell here in Florida and they only start at $225,000 each. And it's a really big mountain with lots of twistys.

Someone had a brain storm, but I'll be surprised if anyone actually goes for this.

You pay $230,000. It sounds like they (whoever they are) provide 5 cars, with your advertising message on them, and drive those cars anywhere you want for 30 days. The time period starts on June 1st. Why June 1st? Well despite their explaination that it provides time for you to plan your route. I suspect its when these 5 people can get a month off from their "day jobs". It sounds like a great way for 5 MCS owners to get a pot-luck vacation.

Hmmmm.., for $230,000, I'LL get 5 MCS ($25Kx5=$125,000), and put whatever message on them that you want, and drive them for 30 days. I'm sure the gas, lodging, and sinage won't eat up the remaining $105,000. You're probably looking at about$30,000 for those details, and the remaining $75,000 is profit. (On top of the free vaction and the 5 paid-for MINIs that you walk away with.) Heck, I'd even do it for $200,000! (cash up-front).

Unless you got to KEEP the cars afterwards, I can't imagine this being worth a darn!

And if your company could afford $230,000 for such an ad campaign, you could afford to buy the cars and do this for a lot longer than a single month.

Bet there is not a single taker for this one!

For arguments sake let's say that the seller is legit and would do exactly what he advertises....that's a great marketing scheme.

Think about it this way, it costs $400,000 for a 30 second ad on a major network for a prime time show like CSI or 24 or Everybody Loves Raymond. For half that cost you could be hitting up cities all over the U.S. catching a lot of attention. It'd be a great way to kick off a new product.

That said, any company serious about this would be better off buying the cars themselves and hiring people to do the driving and promotion.

So, as an auction...bad idea. As a marketing scheme for a company, pretty swift.

My two cents.

From the auction! Read the bold and underlined words!

The route will begin in Plattsburgh, NY, from where the cars will go wherever you want! We will make stops where you want us to, wether it's Time Square in NY, or Disneyworld in Florida, we'll be there.
The cars are yours to go wherever you can think of for a full 30 days, starting on June 1st 2005. Why June 1st? Well, this way we will have time to plan the route, and contact local and nationwide press for them to talk about it on the news.
The cars will make stops for as long as you want, in wichever city you want! 30 days is enough for the cars to go across the US, and back! VIEWED BY MILLIONS!

-Does it sound like this to anyone else?
--You don't get to drive the MINIs with whom you chose. Yet instead whoever "WE" is, drives the MINIs. You chose where they go.

I also noticed that there are a couple of spelling errors. I would think with such a big IDEA like this, it would of been read several times for errors! Hmmm...

Lol

I came to the forum this morning just to post about this ad (glad I noticed the thread), and how I wished I'd thought of doing this kind of thing first. I don't know if it will pan out for these people, but I can't think of a gig I'd like more than driving my MINI.

I think it's a good idea. And I would say that I don't think anyone would bid, but someone did buy that haunted cane a couple months ago (for a ridiculously exhorbitant sum), so I'm not putting anything past the moneyed public.

And I don't understand the knocking of the idea, either: so what if they just want to pay for their MINIs and go when they have vacation time available from their "day jobs"??? It was their idea (jealous?), when last I checked we lived in the midst of a vast free-market, and if someone's willing to pay for it, well, I just wish I'd thought of it first.

PS: Ollie and I are available for a similar scheme. Anytime.

They're all the way up to zero bids. I wonder why.

Yes, no one has stepped up to the plate yet, but 427 have look at it!

I'm in agreement with OmToast on all accounts. Free market at it's best and a pretty good idea too.

See ya at the Dragon sndwave
