DSC & Flat Tire light came up on the dash. Codes were as follows:
Able to clear all the codes with C310+
Two lights come back on the dash with a few minutes.
Now it's just the SE43 Steering-angle sensor, internal OR SE40 Steering angle implausible. (I've gotten both errors over the last couple days)
I'm able to read the live data stream for the SAS on my Creator 310+ and when I have the steering wheel straight it comes up -172 degrees (should be zero) and reads the steering angle for a few seconds. Then (doesn't mater if I turn the wheel or not) it goes to -325 degrees and stays there. If I reload the data stream (go back a screen and then select it again) it does the same thing... shows a live data read out of the steering ~ incorrect angles but actual readings as the steering wheel is rotated the numbers increase and decrease, so it is giving data but then it goes to -325 and stays after a few seconds and stays at -325 indefinitely
I can not reset the SAS angle to zero with the C310+
I am unable to reset the steering angle sensor by ~ turn steering full lock left → hold 2 seconds → full lock right → hold 2 seconds → center.
INPA (I have v3 UK version 5.00) will not let me read the live steering data nor reset the SAS to zero
I don't have ISTA (which I think will allow me to reset the SAS
I have NCS Expert and NCS Dummy but I have never used them. (I got them both when I did the tune with adriancl )
I have pulled fuse #2 (DSC sensor) just for good measure.
What's my next step?
Does the Foxwell 510 or 530 support SAS calibration?
I've read of one guy lubricating and slightly bending the brushes back for better contact inside the SAS after removing it.
Should I take it in to a local shop that has ISTA (or the BMW software of choice) or is the SAS bad and that's what they are going to tell me?
Anybody in the Portland OR area have ISTA or more advance OBD tool?
I don't want to remove the SAS until I know it's bad... then if I buy a new SAS, I need to recode the new one... probably need INST or a Foxwell 510 or 530???
Can adriancl help with this sort of thing?
Thanks for any input.

UPDATE 3 hours later.
Going to get a Foxwell NT510 Elite and see if I can reset the Steering angle back to zero with it. (internet says I can)
I will post my results.
No changes to the car... just been driving it lately since we've had some good weather.
I'm also considering the battery voltage. I have a smaller, light weight batter that is about 3 years old... It starts the car just fine every time and I have it on tender on and off over the winter when the car doesn't get driven much.

I've just experienced the same EXACT issues with my steering wheel angle sensor. Same exact codes and fault description. On occasion only the DSC will light indicating a fault, otherwise both the DSC & Flat tire indicator will illuminate. If I cycle the key on and off the lights don't re-appear....until another 20 - 40 miles.
I have the Foxwell NT 510 Elite. No problem finding and clearing the faults - Unfortunately it cannot reset/calibrate the SAS to 0.0°. At least I have not been able to do it with my Foxwell.
If you manage to figure it out - 'would be grateful if you could share what you did.

Rats... I wish I would have seen your post... there's some good info there.
Well I found a used NT510 Elite on Ebay and it's on its way.... I will give it a try. Grok (AI) says you can do it... but he's been wrong before.
I will keep you posted.

The NT510 will not clear the code for SAS , ended up buying brand new and had it reset by Mini expert in Burbank , Ca. ; everything’s perfect now…
i did some work on my steering column and ended up with an error for my steering angle. i don't remember the specifics, but i was able to clear the code (possibly recalibrate?) with my Foxwell NT710
Having also refreshed my entire subframe a couple of years ago, I was also met with the "SE40 Steering angle implausible" fault as well as the dreaded "5E19 ABS DSC CAN data error from DME/DDE..." wich both faults would clear with my Foxwell NT510 Elite but persistently came back. It wasn't until I locked the steering wheel perfectly straight (in line with 4 on the tach) and performed a string alignment that the codes finally cleared themselves after finally getting the alignment correct. This went on for about a month of trial by me doing my own alignment in vacant parking lots. I wasn't that conversant with understanding how to use my 510 Elite to aide in calibration. I don't think it has that ability. I just went oldskool. I was just tired of spending money at the tire shop having alignments done every time I hit a bump in the road or upgraded suspension parts.

Soooo this got me thinking. I've taken a couple trips to the coast this last month and there are some good back roads I like but turns out they have gotten really bad as far as sinking holes/pavement and poor fixes. Took a couple of good shots to full compression and into the bump stops!!
Maybe I need get out the strings and do an alignment as well. NT510 should be here this weekend.
I will post back.
To your point - I can't help finding it rather ironic that I too am having SAS faults popping up recently especially now as I'm having violent front end shaking at hwy speeds.
Perhaps coincidental. Then again...maybe not (?).
For this reason, I will not be replacing my steering angle sensor and re-coding by the $$dealer$$ until I have a chance to resolve the vibration issue/alignment to see if that is the inherent cause for the faults.
Wish me luck!
My NT510 still hasn't shown up so I decided to put the Mini up on stands and give the suspension a look see.
Found this on the FR... I guess I did take a pretty good shot on the bumps going to the coast. Front Sway Bar end link.
Everything else under the car looked OK so I'm going to get a new end link and do a full alignment.
Meanwhile I decided to take look at the steering angle sensor.
Here's a good link for more info. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...le-sensor.html
POST 8 has the details. One note when you get to step number 2 on the list from this How To:
You need to remove the bolt completely.... the bold clamps the compression fitting but it also is notched so you cannot separate the shaft without removing the bolt completely.
Steering column
The link explains how to open the SAS up, check the contact points (lower left in the picture) and a few other checks.
Everything looked good in here so I cleaned it and put put a tiny little bit of dielectric grease on contacts and closed it back up. Steering Angle Sensor
So I think my next steps are:
Replace the broken end link
Do a string alignment (check the camber as well)
See if the SAS will either reset it's self from full lock both ways, NT510 can do it or last resort take it to the shop and get it reset to zero.
Update:
As I was re-installed the SAS today, I had an idea.
My C310 scanner will read the angle of the sensor as a live feed (for a few seconds then it times out to -325 degrees for some reason)
Anyway I plugged in the SAS, and set it to 0 and then slid it on to the steering column with the steering wheel straight.
Cleared the codes and drove it around the neighborhood. (I still have to fix the end-link on the front sway bar)
No errors so far!!!!
I only drove around the neighborhood because my end-link is still broken (I have one on order from Fortune Auto) and my front sway bar clanks around.
I did plug the NT510 in, didn't give it to much time but it did seem like it may have a little bit more access than my C310+ but not much more.
I'm waiting for the end-link to come in and I'm going to check the alinement and take it out for a drive. I will report back.
Hey @bump32 - I've just calibrated my steering angle with the Foxwell NT510 Elite.
It+ was so simple. I'll post the procedure with pics in a new thread soon.

Had this happen to me, it was from worn out front end suspension components, particularly the control arm bushings, but you'll also want to check for slop in the tie rods and looseness in the ball joints, I pretty much just had to replace all the wear components on the front end suspension, yet to do the struts but the steering rack was toast so had to replace that as well because the boot on the inner right tie rod tore some time ago and was left unchecked and I couldn't remove the inner tie rod because it was so badly rusted into the rack.
^^^Good to know^^^ and thanks for adding to your experience regarding the vibration issue.
In my case, as a result; I had previously replaced just about everything and upgraded my entire front-end/subframe including with all polybushings. The only thing I hadn't replaced but refurbished ; were my original OEM factory axles in which the drive axle finally broke a bearing after 122k miles that caused the inbalance under load at high speeds.

Yeah that'll also cause vibrations at high speeds XD Currently trying to see if my SAS is bad as it's reading a constant -1440° and if cleaning it could fix the issue.
