Battery Squib?

I recently removed my battery and appeared to have broken the connector on this part labeled “TYCO Battery Squib”and was on the Battery Terminal. What is this part for and do I need it for the car to function properly? Also, I have not been able to find it anywhere online using the name and numbers on the part itself, does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Thanks for the link. I obviously know 90% of what the post states but doesnt really say what it is vs “looks like a”. I want to know if the car can do without it and or where I can find one as I have looked everywhere even on ebay and cannot find one. Thx

Hmm as far as i read you need it. Its basically a fuse which disconnects if an accident happens and air bags are deployed. " it can be bypassed with a 3.2 Ohm resister soldered at the end of the cables inside the yellow head ".

Your going to pay a fortune for a new replacement. Likely best to find someone parting out a car near you or go for the resistor fix.

Its NOT part of the cable as it plugs into the cable so no need to purchase the whole battery cables… stop trying to sell things not needed lol

The end of the cllip where the connector goes on the plug broke off. So will no longer plug in.

The squib (AKA explosive) is part of the battery cable.

Most BMWs with rear mounted batteries have this setup. It's part of the airbag system which us why the connector is bright yellow and has a very deliberate locking mechanism.

Although increasingly hard to find,(R53); If not Allmag.com, then perhaps you can cut one out of an R53 from a salvage yard....if you are lucky to have one close to where you are.

FWIW:
I don't recall if my connector broke (years ago), but the airbag warning light was lit and the car would not start.
I performed the resistor/diode bypass hack and it has been working for years now.

I went to my locl junkyard and found only 1 S Coop that had it intact and I could not remove it as it just spins. I read this today but when I tried to pull it off I broke it off too “arghhhhhh” I checked and def part of the cable that runs all the way to the front under the driver side and very difficult to get to. I then thought I should have cut the battery cable and then spliced it onto mine BUT I am now thinking of doing the resistor diy on this instead as I dont want to deal with looking for one as it appears to be specific to only 04-06 S models. All others have the front mounted battery systems

Anyone have a link to how to do the resistor hack? Greatly appreciated.

Well $#%& that sucks, I have multiple parts cars up here in Ont, Canada. I can see about pulling the squib and shipping to you if interested. Although we have about 3ft of snow so you'll have to wait a couple months lol.

Squib resistor mod is relatively easy, a matter of sourcing the right resistor is all. If my squib ever fails I'm simply doing this mod aswell, as by doing so it's future proof!!

Best of luck
