R50/53 Selling 02 "S"
Selling 02 "S"
I'm thinking about selling my MINI. I would like to get the 05 with the LSD in it. The big problem is I have the car set up just the way I like it now and to start all over is just a pain. So far I have springs, light weight flywheel, new pressure plate, clutch disk, sway bar, 15% pulley, ECU flashed, intake, exhaust and other little tid bits. Plus to take all of this off is just not in the picture. With the car very close to 120,000 highway miles I do not think I will get a very good deal even though the car is in great shape and runs like a bat out of hell. Just wanted to get some feed back on how much I could possibly get for it?
well, i dont really have a good idea how much its worth, thats kinda subjective. But I think for you to post a price you'd be happy with isnt a bad idea. Maybe someone will hit, if not, thats where the bidding will begin.
Why is removing the aftermarket parts out of the question? did you toss the stock parts as you upgraded?

If you still have the stock parts put it back to stock. A modded car with 120k on the clock could be tough to sell. Your aftermarket parts will fit an 05 just fine. Selling the 02 with all you aftermarket stuff in place you will not get much return on the parts. Or pull the parts and sell them separately. Use the money to put down on your 05.
DPilgrim - your selling your piece of MINI history????? I am surprised. But then the 05 is a bit of a distraction. I think the best way to spin the sale is the badge and historical info on your car. It's not just a 120M miles MINI it's actually a part of MINI history!

I just sold my '04 MCS!!!!
I highly recommend placing an ad in www.cars.com
My MCS found a new home just 6 days after I placed the ad. Get the "Premium" private sale add package with 12 photos for only $50 (Runs until it sells) and watch your car sell by itself.
A 2002 MCS with 120K is probably in the $4K-$7K range for a retail private sale (Yes it is very low), provided that the car is otherwise in perfect shape. The killer here is the high mileage. The car has the equivalent use and wear/tear of a 10-12 year old vehicle.
One way to help determine your mileage deduction is to establish what is the "acceptable" mileage range today for an used 2002 MINI. Let's say 30,000 miles. So your car has 90,000 miles excess mileage (30K+90K = 120K miles). Now multiply 90,000 * 0.15 (Cost of each mile above 30,000 miles) = $13,500 depreciation
Now take the retail private sale value of a '02 MCS (Depending on equipment). Let's assume it is $18K. Deduct 18,000-13,500 = $4,500 final price
This gives you a rough idea as to how to estimate a fair price for your car. Don't take my word for it. Go to www.edmunds.com and click on "TMV used car values", punch in your zipcode and see what thier calculator figure for the current value is.
You certainly enjoyed the car so that high depreciation write it off as the grins, smiles and places you went with that wonderful car.

I sold my '04 MCS yesterday for above of what I originally paid for!! The resale value of MINI simply KICKS ***!!! And I am another living proof of it.
My advice to anyone thinking about trading in their old MINI for a new one: DON'T DO IT!!! SELL IT YOURSELF!
The demand is still high and the supply is low. This is the reason why used MINIs are still going for top dollar. It is mind blowing but true. There are buyers out there willing to pay serious money for these cars.
I knew there was a reason why I kept my stock runflats!
I still love the Mini but I starting to want more room. I'll get over that one day.
That's great you got more then what you paid. So when is the 05 coming?

OK I was wrong, so my apologies
I just appraised an used '02 MCS with only one factory option (MFSW) and 120,000 miles. Here are the prices for my zipcode (33175);
Trade in: $13,629
Private Sale: $15,127
Dealer retail: $17,714
Edmunds.com is only deducting $2,242 for the excess mileage
Amazing!
Hey Dough, if you are serious about selling your car, put an ad in www.cars.com and price it around $16.5K. The first $15K-$16K that come your way, take this baby to a new home. Worth the try.
MINI resale is amazing guys, wow!

glad Cooper4us didn't jump the gun there
dpilgrim; I'd say just get a Quaife LSD installed - better than the stock '05 LSD, and none of the "starting from scratch" hassle.
Motor-On!

If you think you can't get over 10g out of it you are CRAZY. If you put that on e-bay right now with a reserve of 10k it would sell in 7 day's period! If it doesn't i'll pay for the listing. Just search for wrecked mini's and they are bringing in the 12-14 area with salvage title and work that needs to be done, the cheapest mini s i have seen was on that the whol rear was crushed by an f-350 it still brought at auction an un heard of price of 8470.00 plus buyer's fee.

I visited Kelly Blue Books site and they showed $16,600 for a retail value in my area. So I would think with all the go fast parts I should get something a little higher.
KBB is not very realistic in my experience. However I sold my car for over what I originally paid for it. I think you should consider yourself lucky to get $15K-$16K for a car with that kind of mileage and with no factory warranty whatsoever left on it.
