I had recently heard a ticking sound on my new 04 r53. 77k. At the time of purchasing I heard a ticking sound but figured it was just low on oil since I had a valve cover leak to which I replaced the valve cover, got an oil change, and the sound is still there! Timing chain seemed tight and fine. All rockers were tight and snug. I’m really at a loss of what this ticking sound could be. I’ll list the link to a video of the sound. There’s a bunch of sounds honestly. One from the left side of the valve cover(passenger) and one on the other side(drivers) which is what the video shows. The other ticking sound that I’ve heard is from the supercharger. Records of the car does show something regarding supercharger oil but I’m honestly not to sure it was done. It doesn’t seem that way on paper. I initially thought it was timing chain tensioner but I tried doing the tensioner and the bolt is rusted to the block I couldn’t do it. I just started to round the bolt. Any help is appreciated

I must be going crazy. It is very hard to hear in the videos but it’s becoming louder and louder the more I drive. Anytime I take the car above 5k I start to hear ringing sound. Really pushing me towards sc
Could a slight ticking sound come from my valves? I dont know how but maybe the sound originates from the valves retracting into the head creating a ticking sound? I really dont know and its driving me crazy. I will post another video of the sound as its more obvious compared to the other videos I have linked.
So it’s actually not coming from the engine exactly as I assumed but it’s associated with my clutch pedal.
today I started my car for school and at idle the ticking sound was present. Was ready to leave and engaged clutch and noticed the sound went away. So when I engage the clutch pedal the ticking sound goes away AND STAYS AWAY unless I retract the pedal slowly. If I let go of the clutch fast, the ticking sound appears. The fast I return the clutch pedal the louder the ticking sound sounds lol.
A bit scared since I’m not really aware of the possibilities that this could be. Hope you guys can help!
Reviving this pretty old thread in hopes that it might help someone else!
It is actually my throwout bearing that is causing all the ticking sounds. It makes sense since it relates to whenever I engage clutch the sound goes away. Whenever I release clutch, sound comes back louder and stronger! Car still drives fine. Not sure when I'll replace. Probably next clutch replacement!
