R53 MCS Cold Start Rattle PT2
Hey all so I have already posted something about this and did get some great help which I haven't tried yet since it requires a oil change which I just did. I noticed something this morning when I first started my car, since it rattles on cold start consistently I was wondering if oil pressure has anything to do with it so I tried to rev it to see if it went away quicker. The problem was is that it didn't rev at all, it just hesitanted and felt like it would die. It only stopped hesitating when I started to drive off. Any ideas could this be a bad rocker arm not opening the valves because it does also run a bit rough when it cold starts as well. Any input is appreciated.
Just to give us some basic information: What's the milege on the engine, what oil and viscosity are you using and what OCTANE gas are you using? Have you taken a compression test lately? If, so readings?
Engine has 105590 miles on it it is my daily driver, oil i current have royal purple 5w30 am very strict about changing every 3k and always put 91 since that's the highest octane my state has, also has 15% pulley and intake if that matters. I have not taken a compression test but will probably here soon just to see health of engine.

Over the 15 years of ownership, I have experienced a rare burp of a rattle at a cold startup after our 06 R63 had not been driven for at least a week or so. I had mentioned this infrequent occurrence to my trusted MINI guru and he recommended adding a can of BGMOA at the next oil change even though it only had a little over 45k miles at the time. Not being a fan of oil additives, but trusting my techs expertise, I did so. I noticed on the the first oil change with BGMOA far fewer if any cold start up rattle and an improvement in vibration reduction. On the second oil change with BGMOA, I have not experienced the rattle. I have further noticed a smoother and much quieter idle. PS..I have also added it to my 2000 Accord with 154k miles and have experienced a more than noticeable reduction in noise and vibration. Is BGMOA snake oil? My experience with the product says “no”. Good luck.

I already replaced that as well I just bought timing chain guides who knows at this point. The yo yo effect seemed similar with another thread where he had a similar thing which was caused by the guides. No rattle though but I'm honestly trying anything at this point. Appreciate the help though.
