Brief rough idle on cold start

Anybody experience a 2-3 second rough idle on morning cold start. It is not right when the car starts it is about 3-5 seconds after start. The car is in the garage and night temps have been about 55 so it is not a COLD COLD start. I thought there was an eartquake the first time it happened. Any help appreciated...it may not be anything to worry about but who knows.

I have been noticing a little "jiggle" after a few seconds. Just about the time my seatbelt is clicking, the MINI jiggles about like it's windy outside...but it's not. I suppose that's what you're talking about?

Doesn't sound like an actual problem, just a quirk. I'd bet it's not the last one you come across. Think of them as personality!

At -45F,yeah you read that right,I some times have to help the car idle, for 1/2 a minute or so,but then it's on it's own

Yup, its a quirk. It will soon level out on its own or blip the throttle & its gone till next time.

35 degrees F?!?!?

Are you kidding?!?

How can mankind function at 35 degrees!!!!!

I crank up the heated seats and the climate control to "HI" when it's a chilly 60 degrees F in the winter mornings. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I have found that by turning the key to position 2 for a bit before starting engine has virtually eliminated the "roughness" of my morning start. I now put the key in and turn it to pos 2 , get my seatbelt on and adjust radio, then start the car. Works great for me. Kinda primes the fuel pump.

Yeah, me too (minus the shorts). There's still snow on the ground up here in MI, but it felt like mid-spring.

I also get that rough idle on a cold start. It even went as far as stalling at the first stop sign.

Come to think of it, no way people would CHOOSE to live in a place like that

I'd stumble and stall too!

I've had this from day one. But if I pause between "engine on" and "engine
start" for about 5seconds (long enough for the DSC test to complete) i
don't get this. I think fuel is primed or something. someone can
better explain.

So did I - then I moved to Minnesota

At least I can tell myself that southern MN is warmer than North Dakota, Alaska, and Manitoba

I always wait for all the bells and lights and mileage to next service to clear on the first start of the day.One to let all the start-up checks to happen, and to let the injectors get primed. My MINI starts as soon as I turn the key, never cranks for more than a second or 2,and goes to high idle,1100-1200 RPM,and is smooth right away.I do this no matter what the outside temp.

I've been having the same roughness in my month old Cooper S. I'm definitely gonna try that the next time I start mine up.
