R50/53 Official 2005 February Build Thread
A Old Oops...
Was searching in vain for pictures of m/v Terrier and found this. Don't panic all, it's from 2002. But scary none the less. A little piece about...
"Norwegian-registered Wilhelmsen Lines ro/ro M/V Tricolor, Zebrugge, Belgium, for Southampton with 2,862 cars & 77 containers, in collision with Bahamas-registered 577-foot container M/V Kariba, 30 miles E. of Ramsgate, England. Tricolor sank --- resting on the bottom of Channel, but only partly submerged because tide low. Kariba returning to Antwerp, Belgium escorted by Belgian warship & French coast guard. Bad year for Ro/Ro's. Tricolor worth about £25M (US$40M) & cargo up to £31M (US$49M). (Posted Sat. Dec. 14 2002)"
page is at http://www.cargolaw.com/2003nightmare_tricolor.html if you follow the link for the whole thing scroll down the page to find this... And here we thought all we had to worry about is a delay at the VDC... There are even arial photos where you can see the thing submerged just below the surface at high tide.
Now, let's see how many of us suffer nightmares in the next few weeks after seeing this

Either Popular Science or Popular Mechanics published photos from inside the submerged holds of the Tricolor a year or two ago.
I think they either raised the ship and scrapped it, or if finally sank to a depth where it's no longer a hazard to navigation.

I am not feeling optmistic that Goldfinch will be ready for pick up on the 19th of march.
This web sight has been great for me finding cheap air fare for anyone interested. http://www1.mobissimo.com/travel/search_airfare.php
sailing, sailing, over the bounding main....
Looks like we be shipmates... Welcome aboard matey! Aargh! (I fly a jolly roger on my sailboat so I have to drop into Pirate mode when talking the high seas)
Hey, who else has checked the shiping so much they've got their VIN memorized?

Well, I got a chance to try out MINI roadside assistance last night. My loaner car (see above for why my MCS had to go back temporarily) got a flat while I was eating out with some friends. I would have changed it myself of course, but I figured since it wasn't my car, I didn't want to accidently scratch a wheel or something and then be responsible for it. After the initial confusion on the phone with (Oh, it's a dealer's car.....ummm let me check with my boss), the repair guy got there in 30 minutes and had it changed in no time flat. Very pain free. As a side note, I found out today that I was responsible for the costs of repair or replacement of the tire under the loaner car agreement.
So, off I went to Discount Tire this afternoon. Turned out the tire got a nail dead center. Those guys are awesome. Repaired the tire, replaced the donut, even put the donut back into place with the toolkit and everything. Handed me the keys and said, “You’re all done. Have a nice day. No charge.” Luckily it was a nail right dead center. Couldn’t have gotten any farther away from the sidewall if I had done it with a hammer.
On a related note, they gave me a MC CVT for a loaner, and I gotta say that I was pretty impressed. No, it doesn't have the pickup of my MCS, and the CVT personality takes a little getting used to, but drop it into sport manual mode and it can be alot of fun. Enough pickup to put a smile on my face. Oh well, back to babying my car tomorrow after I get it back. For another 900 miles anyway.
Well done Discount Tire
Bad luck MrV ... hope you get your own car back soon. MINI Peabody only give out Enterprise loaners (not MINIs) and rarely - so its a good thing they are such a great place to hang out

Well, still no status on my car... appears to still be sitting at port... only a few cars loaded on the ship, and no known date of when the ship is suppose to leave port.... and they recieved my car on 2-25! What the heck is going on? Oh well, I found a car with even more options on it, I might just pickup next weekend... we'll see.... not sure I want to pay the extra $3k for options I don't REALLY want.... but, then again, better than paying $3k for markup, eh
?

Oh yeah, red on red! That's what I'm talking about! That's my spec (April delivery). I'm just burned that I couldn't get the red/black seating in my MCSC. Had to go for space gray cloth.
Thanks a lot MINI.

Wow! You're so lucky... I spoke with you before about your new car being a replacement for your old one that turned out to be a lemon. Well, I've been waiting over five months now for my replacement MINI and it's STILL a no go if you can believe it.
The replacement car arrived at the dealership nearly a week ago now but I still can't pick it up. Apparently, the dealership is still trying to work out all of the replacement details with MINI USA. They told me that they couldn't begin the negotiations until the replacement car arrived on their lot. They were supposed to of had a meeting with the MINI USA field rep yesterday about the replacement deal, but I've still not heard anything back from them. It really stinks knowing that the car is sitting on the dealer's lot and yet I can't drive it away.
Obviously your dealer was able to get your car replaced a lot faster than mine has. Kudos to you on that!
Enjoy your new car and please do post some pictures of it for us all to see. Here are a few shots of my replacement car (sitting on the dealer's lot):

Hmm. I just got switched from Terrier to Resolve.
I'd been showing as the Terrier since the 25th when I got scanned at the dock, but sometime in last 12 hours go moved to the Resolve. I'm not asterisked but many are. Maybe partly because I think initially the Terrier was due to sail the 4th before the Resolve. So if Resolve ended up sailing first I guess I must have been close enough to the head of the line to get swapped.
Though maybe I'm trying to see logic in a random situation?

You got my interior!
I've got a Chili red with dash and door rings in red too like you coming in about two weeks. But neither the red leather nor cloth are available on the S convertible. Why I have no idea. So, I guess I'm going with the Wet Okole covers.
Nice looking car!
