ID44 Or ID73 Key

I have a 2004 Mini Cooper s and the key is getting wobbly, and need a replacement. I don't know wither it is ID44 or ID73, 315Mhz or 433Mhz. My local dealer wants $300 for a replacement. How do i tell witch do i need? I will not be having the dealer replace it. Been locking at the eBay board and key fob or maybe the AK90+ AK90 Auto Programmer EWS

Regards

I'm pretty certain it's 315Mhz for the US market. Check the circuit board, the frequency might written be on one of the chips.

None of those dumb keys work, i bought em all, you need to get a dealer one, they do sell a no button valet key for 150 just used to start the car, i tried those eBay keys and get them programmed with my programmer and no luck, even tried the sync sequence turn on off unlock and lock , nothing .. bite the bullet the cheapest dealer one or end up in a loop

The correct chip is the ID44 transponder, it won't work with ID73 at least not in the US market - I bought a flip key with that transponder and it couldn't be coded with the EWS module, but the other like OE key worked with ID44.

I used an ebay key and a local locksmith here in NYC for $180 which was still pricey enough. The locksmith mentioned to me that the key was difficult to program to though, took multiple tries to code it with EWS or whatever.

eBay key

Well i received a defu car key cutting copy duplicating machine 368a and attempted to duplicate my key, using the cutters etc that came with it. So far the results are i made the duplicate key and it will open the door but will not turn the ignition? can't figure that one out?.

If the new key won't turn in the ignition switch barrel, try turning the wheel just a little to take the pressure off the steering lock.
Otherwise, there may be some microscopic difference between the new & old keys. Try wire-brushing the new key? Try a little WD40?
If the key turns in the ignition switch barrel, it should - sort of - turn the ignition on - ie the dashboard lights up. But the car won't start without the correct transponder - is that what the 'coder programmer' is for?
There are a couple of YT videos on the Defu 368A if you haven't seen them.

I have 4 keys; 2 remote fobs + 2 just keys.
1 fob works fine, the other fob is the original non-fob key & transponder in an eBay fob, it opens the door & starts the car but I have not been able to 'pair' it so that the remote fob works.
The 2 just keys both open the door & turn the ignition on, but won't start the car. I need 2 more transponders - how do I go about getting these & getting them programmed?

Did you program the key using the AK90 programmer? You need to take out the EWS immobilizer module from the driver side, under the dash in the footwell and then that has to be popped open I believe which gives access to the ports. Then everything else is done through the software.

I am not to the programing stage yet , i wanted to cut the key first to see if it would work in the ignition first. The funny part about this is it will unlock the door, but it won't lock it with the duplicate it only turns to the left, but if you pull it out of the door and turn it over it will also unlock to the left won't turn to the right, won't work at all in the ignition? Dos the key have to be programed in the 2004 before it will turn the ignition tumbler?.

Regards
