My own D@#N fault

I scratched up the rim of my right front RV-F BBS wheel this morning. I was coming to a 4 way and there was lots of stop and go traffic. I pass this intersection everyday at least 4 times to and from evrywhere from my place. Impatiently I swerved around to the right to go around an SUV. The SUV was stopped waiting to turn left. What I could not see it that a car was coming from the street that the SUV was tryin to turn down ito its path, and, the SUV moved right to avoid it into my path. I hit the brakes and the curb ever so slightly.....just enough to rough up about 4 inches of the rim. THe wheel is going to the shop for a few days to be fixed and painted. It was my fault....no one to blame but me. I should have stopped behind the SUV and waited for it to clear but NOOOOO.....not me....not this morning. I'm glad that my poor judgement only had this consequence and not something a lot worse. I just thought I would tell on myself to give others food for thought.

Thanks for the reminder...things can just happen so quickly out in traffic. I think your giving us food for thought just might keep some us a bit more alert as we're running around this holiday season. Thanks for sharing.....and really sorry about your wheel.

Sorry to hear about your rim.
Hope it can be fixed soon.
Sometimes it doesn't pay to be too fast.

Seems like when I go into any checkout line mine is always the slowest!
How does that happen? If I switch lines I get the slow one still.
Seems unfair.
Is there such a thing as check out line "Rage"

Man, I kissed the curb on my drivers side front wheel not five days after I got my '04 S in July. Not much of a ding but it HURT !

So far I have managed to nick three out of four! Only suvivor so far is the rear drivers.

I've learned to use the power mirrors to take a look down at the curb when parking and so far haven't had any further curb kisses!

Aloha!

Had something simmilar happen this morning. Got our first realy deep snow of the season tonight. Returning home from FedEx Indy Hub night sort, turned into a frontage road for more experience in deeper snow. Jeep Cherokee in front of me. Snow removal trailer in the road and another SUV coming in the other lane. Single lane. Too late to stop so I pulled into a parking lot. Hit a curb and popped a bead (didn't know this). Drove home un aware of dammage and got stuck in a snow drift turning off highway onto side road. Started Smelling rubber. Finally got the car home. Noticed a low passenger side front end. MELTED the tire where the bead attaches to rim.

Had 4 BF Goodrich tires on my Stratus and went to Wal*Mart where I got them. They replaced with a Douglas M+S as The BF Goodrich was no longer available.

Thankfully my tire was only $70 and not Run Flats on a MC. I should have stayed on the main highway.

don't even get me started on that one after what I was dealing with today.

I was going to the bank this morning to deposit my pay check and there was this old Jeep Cherokee in front of me going 40 in a 55. Dealing with that was hard enough, but when I got to the entrance ramp onto the highway I wanted (a left hand turn being the good driver I am I get immediatly into the turn lane to not inconvenience anyone who would be behind me by slowing down and turning into the left turn lane at the last moment. Well, wouldn't you know it the Jeep descides it wants to turn left and just starts coming over into the lane without signaling. One sudden batch of braking by me at the stupid thing is back in front of me again.
So the entrance ramp onto the highway is pretty long, basically enough so an 18 wheeler can get up to speed from the stoplight that controls the left turn lane onto the highway. So Mr/Mrs SUV driver decides to go 30-40mph on it leading to a highway that has a speed limit of 65. I can take someone being cautious and everything, but this was just getting me annoyed. So when the entrance ramp goes from being its own thing to having a dotted white line on the left to allow merging/passing/whatever I decide I'm going to get the hell past this person. I'm in 4th going a whole 40mph or so and signal for a left into the next lane, the road is clear behind me so I move over and start speeding up quite a bit. That's the moment that the Jeep decides to make another un-signaled left lane change . So I check again and the far left lane is open too (3 lane highway), so I just keep on moving to the left to get clear of this joker. Seemed like everyone wanted away from this person too because when I looked back everyone was getting around this person in every lane they could. I think their final speed in the middle lane of this particular stretch of road was 50-55 (in a 65). Needless to say I put as much road in between me and this person as I could (they were a dot in my rear-view mirror).

^^^^^Ouch!!

What a pathetic excuse for a driver! I occasionally run into one, too, that seems to be totally oblivious to the fact they are driving. It's inexcusable!!! The example you site is so rediculous...it'd even be comical if roadway safety wasn't at stake.

Ack...sorry about the rim damage....big owee!

My grandpa used to drive his big ol' Cadillac at no more than 35-40 mph on freeways, no matter what! I learned to assume a zen attitude, and just shrug it off, but it was awful! When asked why he didn't get up to speed on the freeway, he said, and I quote, "Nobody needs to move that fast."

What a character!

After my initial frustration when behind someone who is going slowly, I try to imagine that person being my grandma in front of me. It helps me to realize this person is probably going just as fast as they should be. Then I pass them at the first possible opportunity while signaling 'I'm #1'. jk
