2006 Mini Cooper S, 59,000 miles on her

Good Afternoon, All - I have been a frequent poster here, yet as forgot User Name and Password had to create new ones. I have a Beautiful British Racing Green 2006 Mini-Cooper S Hatchback with only 59,000 miles on her. I am retired and drive very little. She won't pass inspection this year as diagnostic tool stated emission problem - (Service Engine Light stays on) Last year with Service Engine Light on, she passed inspection as drove her hard for 150 miles then immediately to Inspection Station. Am unable to do this this upcoming Inspection per foreign auto shop. I cannot recall exactly what needs to be replaced throughout emission system but will cost me about $2,000. I also need tires. (2 have dry rot) - What brand might you recommend for all weather and should I replace all 4. I can't go crazy money as live on low limited income. Any/All thoughts/suggestions would be so very helpful. Sincerely, abbey1

I would get the tire size from the sidewall of your current tires, then look at various tire web sites for pricing. The size will be something like 195/55R16 or 205/45R17. It depends upon your wheel size.

I just installed Continental ContiPro Contact tires on my daughter's MINI. It had Yokohama tires on it previously and I thought the wet traction with the Yokohama tires was terrible. The Continental tires are definitely much better in the rain. They weren't cheap as they were about $650 for four, but, in my opinion, good tires are worth extra. You can always look at various tire reviews on TireRack.com and other tire web sites to get feedback from other customers.

I run Federal 595 SSs on my Mini. Not anything I would take on a track but on the street they're fine and they're reasonably priced (think I paid $65 ea. at Walmart). If cost is a factor, they're worth checking out.

Thank You, All! My current tires that have to be replaced are: 195/55/R16. Are all of yours the same tire size? I will check out all of the tire brands you have been kind enough to recommend. Here's a pic of her! Thank You, All, again!

I have 17 inch rims, so I am running 205/45r17 on all 4, which is the stock size.

Tire size depended on the size of the wheel for the MINI. 15s use 175/65, 16s use 195/55, and 17s use 205/45. Your pic looks like it scaled fine to me; that's a big dog though.

Good Day, All! I did a little investigating - Yup, am a female but am a bit mechanically car savvy especially with my 2006 Mini Cooper S. I visually looked at my tires that were "dry rotted" and could see the cracking that my Foreign Auto Owner had told me about thus needing replacing of tires. I found the tire shop break out of tires per computer docs I had saved. I had asked for A/S tires living in New England - this tire shop had put on "Summer Touring Tires", (not to be exposed to low freezing temps, snow/ice) instead. I called the Manager of the tire shop. I told him no A/S on tires - he stated, "don't have to say A/S. They are A/S tires" He became more rude and abrupt treating me like a "dumb broad". He stated, "call the District Rep". There is no District Rep. I then called Michelin Headquarters and inquired about my Michelins. The rep confirmed that these were indeed, Summer Touring Tires and Michelin does not make A/S tires for tire size of my Mini. The Michelin rep was very helpful! I then called the tire shop franchise Headquarters. I was getting rather ticked. This woman at Tire Shop Headquarters accepted all of my info and is giving me a discount and free alignment on any A/S tires I choose from a different franchise tire shop. Have to take my Mini in today to see what choice I have. Tire Shop Headquarters woman will call me later today to tell me how much of a discount. Will see what shakes out! Yup, tires I need are 195/55R16 A/S. Thank You All for your help! Will keep you Posted! Have a Wonderful Weekend.

What is the name of the Michelin tire you have on? Michelin has a lot of A/S tires available.

Good Morning, Marc08EX, I apologize for not making myself clear. The 4 rotted tires were Michelin Energy Savers (Summer Touring Tires) when I requested A/S tires from a Tire Company. Though Michelin Rep mentioned "Premier" A/S, though they are A/S, they do not hold up well in snow and ice. I live in New Hampshire and need better suited A/S tire/s. Michelin does not offer any other A/S tires for my tire size. Thank You for asking. Good Questions!

Good Day, All! Well, Great News! Corporate Hdqrtr woman from Tire company made an arrangement with one of their sister, (not same name as original) Tire Locations. This a.m., I diligently researched which A/S tires had the best rating for heavy snow, ice and freezing temps. I took my Mini to this sister Tire location with my info from researching. This sister Tire Location was Wonderful - very kind and Manager agreed with my choice of tires. 4 of them will be put on today or as I requested, Monday. What a Great Deal I rcv'd! 4 New Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady A/S tires, free alignment, nitro and free tire disposal for a Total of $450.00 and a $150 Visa Credit card! Warranties are applicable! YAY!

Thank You, cooper48! New Goodyear Tires will be on on Monday - so looking forward to that! I did also rcv'e a 6 month payment plan with no interest and can apply that $150 credit from card towards tire purchase, etc - Making the Total Due for the Entire Enchilada $300.00! Where can you buy a set of 4 Good Brand tires, etc for only $300.??? Love my 2006 Mini Cooper S!!!
