2006 Mini listed with great residual value...

This may be old news, but I saw this today on Edmunds via AOL autos (AOL loves lists).

Anyway, Mini is number 2!

My Mini hasn't been delivered yet, so this is one more reason to feel good about buying one! Here's the link and the story:

Top 10 Cars With the Best Residual Value
By Edmunds.com Editors

If you're looking to purchase a new car, you'll probably want one that won't lose too much of its value to depreciation. Well, potential buyers, take note: With resale value in mind, we've compiled this list of the 10 cars likely to depreciate the least during ownership. Included is the percentage of its original value that each vehicle is likely to retain after five years with an annual mileage of 15,000. Our residual value percentages are based on each car's national True Market Value (TMV®) price plus typical options and destination charge. Rankings and figures are updated monthly.

1. 2006 Honda S2000 — 51.7%

2. 2006 Mini Cooper — 51.5%

3. 2006 Acura TSX — 47.7%

4. 2006 BMW M3 — 47.6%

5. 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class — 47.0%

7. 2006 Infiniti G35 — 46.9%

8. 2006 Acura RSX — 46.5%

9. 2006 Lexus SC 430 — 46.5%

10. 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI — 46.4%

What's funny is that the local dealer I traded my 2003 base model Cooper at for my current 2005 Cooper S, has the '03 on the lot for....are you sitting down.....$19,500 !!! This is utterly ridiculous as the car has 54K+ miles on it. And whoever buys it, isn't going to understand that it has the R65 gearbox in it. I'm assuming all the aftermarket parts on it is how they will justify selling it for this insane amount.

I bought my 03' MC a couple weeks ago with the sticker saying $18,000, with 50k miles. I saw an 02' MC at MINI of Towson for $18,000 but it only had 30k miles but still, whoa!

WOW! really strange how the honda is so high up, but facts are facts. Funny how a m3 is worth less % wise than a mini cooper.

Unless you're shopping at Saturn asking prices are usually a far cry from reality.

The S2000 has been cancelled. Perhaps that is why its resale is so high:

Wrong. You realize that is a gag post, right? Look at the date. One day before April 1st. It is an April Fools joke post. The S2000 has been confirmed for 2007 with the only change being a new (orange) color.

It's true, I just got into a new MINI and made a few bucks on an insurance settlement when they totaled out my car that was only about 8 months old.
