Tail light options

Hello forum, need some new tail lights. Are there any good aftermarket options?

really like for them to be solid color (red) rather than clear (stock). Not that there is anything wrong with the clear...

any recommendations would be much appreciated!

For solid red I suggest getting some OEM tails, cutting them open, and removing the chrome strip inside.

Otherwise, find something you like and use some form of translucent vinyl to tint them to your desired color.

What clear stock tail lights are you talking about? There was an accessory clear tail light that dealers sold separately, but all R50/R53 originally came from the factory with stock red tail lights. As for aftermarket, I never saw any (literally not a single one) that I liked.

Thank you for the replies, gents.

the outer plastic is clear on mine (red behind that). Was looking for something that is red on the outer, if it exists...?

Not that I've seen, but I keep looking. I'm honestly not a huge fan of any of the options available to the early cars.

I think the OEM de-chromed looks best:

You could throw a laminate over the top of the lens as well to achieve something similar.

yes sir, that does look good

id probably stop short of opening a new set of lights tho.

I thought about the laminate as well. To high maintenance for my taste.

oh well no biggie

Here is my '04 R53 with aftermarket tail lights....bottom is tail and stop bulb, middle is amber for turn signals, and the top is for factory fog lights, but I wired the top ones to come on with the brake lights

I am running LED bulbs in all the rear lights also, even in the little back up light at the bottom

Same as mine although I have the OEM 2002 units. I think that's the best combination.
I'll just point out that LED bulbs should be behind the same color lens, red behind red & amber behind amber - otherwise, you get a wimpy pink & lemon!

Yes, I have red LED's behind the red lens's....the center round lens is clear on my car, so I used an amber bulb back there.....these are really bright at night....
