Ok i know this topic has been beat to death but I want to know if I should go with a 17-19% pulley. My car currently has a CAI and a catback exhaust, I plan on getting a tune sometime after the pulley swap. Also what all is needed for this install, can I do it in my driveway? Ive done a pulley swap on a Grand Prix GTP and I had to use a pulley puller.
The car will mostly be used for street and highway pulls, I want the most power possible, my goal is to beat my brothers SRT4.
Any and all advice welcome, I just got my mini on sat and dont know too much yet.
*edit
Car allready has a WMW 15% pulley installed, what mod would you guys reccomend next?

For a street car, go with a 17% pulley. If it was a track car, I would say 15%. A 19% pulley builds too much heat in the supercharger, spins it to fast, and wears out your supercharger belt really quick. A 17% is perfect for the street...you will definitely feel the difference. Don't worry about a tune unless you really want to spend $600+ is kind of a waste of money. I would wait until you do more mods like a header, and injectors. But really......for the money you are going to spend on a tune....you don't see a huge boost in power. But, that's up to you.
Yes, you can do it in your driveway.......but rent/buy one of the special pulley pullers (it's not the same type you can rent at the autoparts store). If I remember right, if you buy a pulley from Way Motor Works, they will "rent" you the puller....they just charge you for it until you return it, then you get a full refund. It's a must have for these pulleys and the tight space you are working in.
For street...
17% without W/M
19% with W/M
You can do it in your driveway and you will need the specialty puller, along with a new belt and spark plugs.
You can check with Detroit Tuned or Way Motor Works for the parts or a package, if you don't want to source everything separately.
As long as the SRT-4 is stock, you may still have difficulties in the straights with just a pulley and a tune, but you'll mess him up in the twisty's.
Does W/M stand for water/meth?
I would consider installing a meth kit if it means more power
Yes, and it can give you more power of if yout tune for it.
But.. Be forewarned, if you're gong to tune for W/M you need to use a more expensive and reliable kit.
Without tuning for it, the benefit is strictly to remove some of the extra heat generated by the 19% pulley over the 17%.
Without the W/M there's a good possibility the extra boost of the 19% pulley will be negated by the extra heat, and may even make less overall power than the 17% pulley alone.
Just something you need to realise going in.
For what you want I would say go with a 17% as that is more ideal for what you want. The 19% is good for a real short run if you were like AutoX only. It gets low end, but runs out of quick and builds too much heat along with overspinning the blower and water pump. That is why most manufactures don't even make the 19% anymore.
I do remember that you said this car had a roll cage so I would also suggest verifying it doesn't have a pulley already as that would be odd to not have done, but have a cage??
For tuning we suggest waiting till you have done all your mods first before doing a tune as changing after a custom tune will require retuning.
I've run a 19% pulley since 2006 and haven't had any issues with the water pump or melting anything. When i replaced the water pump for preventative maintenance, the bearings were fine, there was no play, and I didn't see any cavitation on the impeller . I've never overheated and i've pushed the car to its 7.2k redline with the GIAC software many times. While it's probably not ideal for track work, the setup on the street is awesome.

Do you have any dyno numbers? I would love to see hp numbers for 15% 17% and 19% with CAI and exhaust
I know it's an old post for for people looking into a 19% pulley......
I too have run mine for 6months now and the car makes 18psi max. I've run every single pulley now available and I can honestly say, DO A 19% ON A MANUAL if you want the best bang for your buck run no hotter but yet makes more and max boost at lower rpm and i still shift at 7200.. it DOES not overspin the waterpump or overheat iat's.. sure , it's not ideal for track use and extended high rpms but for the street and back road pulls or stop light to stop light , ITS PERFECT !
I also tried a 20% BUT that made NO more boost and I DID start to see hotter iats without extra boost .. though it made max boost sooner it DID NOT make more max boost.. imo the 20% pulley is made for the automatic cars that can't get into that sweetspot in the rpm range..
i went with the wmw 19% pulley package and it along with my sc I ported , its not much less boost than my fully spun sprintex soooo , yea. Go 19% and stop believing all the false " I know somebody who knew somebody " b.s...it's safe , even driving in 100'F stop n go traffic , its fine...
yea you need a few supporting mods but that imo is common sense..colder plugs , shorter belt and imo absolutely 380cc injectors.
Now get boosting !
