I'm finally doing a pulley next week. Question is: Which one? Anybody out there actually tried different ones in their car just like some people have had two or more exhaust systems? Alternatively...I'm sure one of you has driven two different cars with different pulleys. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I have not ridden in another brand, but I like the Alta. It is made of all stainless steel. Some of the others are aluminum and/or steel.

See TonyB's post
I like Alta and that is the one I'll have installed on my MCS.

Just got home from having Eric install the Helix pulley. I don't know who makes it, but wow, a very fine addition under the bonnet.

I took the VERY long way home tonight. Doing 90 going up I-287 with no effort whatsoever from the engine. (I think about 3500 rpm in 6th)

This is gonna be fun. Thanks, Eric!

I just got the Alta in the Mail... Really nice Quality, and it is self aligning on the shaft so no need to realign or anything. Really good stuff!

I plan on adding the pulley and the powerchip ECU when my new MCS arrives. What exhaust did you choose?

I added the Borla (Street).
I like the sound.(more important lack of sound...lol)
My cost was $600 delivered w/ a group buy
The minimal hp gains (5-7 hp) are ok by me.
Peace,
D

Alta here - 1 problem.... I ran out of the "WWII kill stickers" with all the race wins

It is a great quality item.

Use the search, you can learn about each pulley out there. Materials used to make the pulleys, installation procedures, etc. Its all at your fingertips, do your homework.

Hey great idea doscilinders, why didn't I think of that? Oh I know, coz I did use the search and guess what...nobody has done it. You can tell by the "huge" response on this thread.

Now you can go and check your pm from me.

15% reduction pulley vs. 15% reduction pulley, biggest differance is the metals chosen for the job.
1 pound of cotton vs. 1 pound of lead.
They all take into account the effects of heat and that's where you'll find different philosophies.
I chose the Helix pulley, for two reasons.
1. I live in New York and it's a fairly short ride to phili.
2. I like the constuction of their pulley.
I was nervous about the fact that the pulley has to be apllied hot and that once it's on, well it's on.
I kept thinking my luck would have the pulley go on sideways and I'd be driving home on a paint shaking machine.
All went well and I'm very happy with my car.

You however are an idiot that I'll be ignoring from now on.

here is a tidbit of info:
someone reported on M2 that the JCW pulley measures 2.285, compared to 2.585 stock; that worked out to about 11.5%, not 15% reduction.

>>someone reported on M2 that the JCW pulley measures 2.285, compared to 2.585 stock; that worked out to about 11.5%, not 15% reduction.

When I do the math in get an increase of 13.1%. What am I doing wrong?

I think that JCW pulley info is erroneous; to my knowledge the JCW pulley is 14.x% reduction. It's entirely possible the guy mis-measured it.

In any case, pulleys are fun

his measure for the stock pulley is correct:

here is the quote:
"FYI.
Measured the stock pulley OD at 2.585 and the JCW pulley OD at 2.285. Therefore, the JCW pulley is 11.6% reduction, ((2.585 - 2.285) / 2.585 * 100).

thanks for the info jlm, however, the 15% was not chosen based off the JCW kit, as you probley know.

a balance between the M45's redline, engine redline (depending on ECU), and physical size all played the part.
For example, with an ECU'd 7200RPM redline, the supercharger spins just a touch under its' redline of 17,200, at 17,050.

Cheers,
Ryan
