What floor mats do you have? If you’ve had both, which do you prefer and why? (Speaking in regards to oem mats here). Ive been thinking about getting the rubber mats, however 2 things concern me.
1st. My interior is beige, my carpet floor mats are beige, so I fear black rubber mats will look odd (can’t find beige ones).
2nd. Slippage, especially when stepping inside the car when it’s raining outside. Shoes wet = slipping all over the place = dangerous and annoying.
Carpet in my '06 R52 and rubber in my co-pilots '15 R60. NOBODY eats, drinks or smokes in mine. Mine gets detailed regularly. Hers looks like 'everycar', it has cookie crumbs and other such all over. Her rubber mats go into mine when we go on road trips (the R52 is much more fun on road trips than the R60). They both have their advantages under specific conditions.
for me and my r53.2, nodoubt went with Rubber mats. With NY weather, its a must. even my black carpet would be screaming at me from the punishment it is given
I have a set of oem carpet, a set of oem rubber, and a set of Coco Mats...I keep my car spotless and prefer the rubber mats because they don't get in the way of anything (my Coco Mats are way too thick).
I have the WeatherTech rubber mats for my Gen 1 as I live in an area deep in soggy fir needles in the rainy season (Seattle) The passenger side full time, driver's side I use the Mini brand carpet mat in the summer only. You can get WeatherTechs in tan which closely matches your interior.
I have both.
The carpet mats are lighter in weight overall. Your interior is quieter when motoring and you may or may not feel it in the handling.
The Rubber ones are heavy. They trap water and salt away from the floor carpets in the winter (good thing). But the interior is noisier and I think I feel the car is heavier when driving hard.
In all cases, I vacuum and clean my interior often.
When I bought my car they had the rubber version installed. But when I was looking thru the boot storage, they had the carpets version there. Tried them both, ended up using the rubber ones.
I have both too. I originally had the rubber ones and loved them, but when I crashed my first R53, I snagged the mats out of it before it got wrecked, and my second R53 came with carpet mats.
I usually put the rubber mats in for the winter and carpet in for summer.
The only time i notice any slippage on the rubber mats is when I get ambitious and armorall them...
I have both rubber and carpet for my MINI. The issue I would have with the MINI mats is the different securing method for the two Official MINI mats. The rubber mats have a hook that goes through the mat to hold it in place the carpet mat has a Velcro circle to hold them. I am not sure I would want to pull out the securing thing each season.
The prior owner did not install the hook with the rubber mats and I went with the carpet as soon as I bought the MINI. I don't know how much the rubber mat slid around underfoot but the carpet mat did until I installed the holder.
I find in my daily driver, the car is colder in the winter with the rubber mat. I wouldn't go without them for a car I drive in the winter with all the snow and road salt in Pennsylvania. I use the rubber mats in the winter and carpet in the summer. I also replace the summer mats after a few years of wear. (I have quite an inventory of floor mats that most people would say are in fairly good condition.)
I have carpet and rubber OEM mats, but keep the rubber ones in it most of the time!
I have a set of black weather techs, but I don't really like them, so they are on the floor somewhere in my shop!
I have black carpet and rubber mats. The rubber mats are the JCW black and red diamond and they have only been off the floor to hose down over the two years since I ordered my Mini.
I've never liked all season (rubber/plastic) floor mats. My second hand '06 R52 came with them. I'd really like carpet. Is OEM MINI the only game in town or are their other options for the carpet? I'd like to change mine out.
I finally got my rubber mats. I like them a lot and they don’t slip like I feared. At this point I don’t prefer carpet over rubber nor the other way around, but these will be nice when it’s raining and I don’t have to worry about getting my carpet mats dirty and cleaning them later which I don’t enjoy doing.
Nonetheless, it was time for me to upgrade as my driver side beige mat was starting to get some wear. I did wish these black rubber mats came in beige, but oh well they will do!
