Timing Tool in Portland

Hey,

I just order a dominator cam from RMW and looking forward to installing it. Does anyone in the Portland are have a timing tool I could borrow. In return I will provide a 6 pack of your choice as a token of my appreciation.

Thanks!

You may want to check out the Portland Tool Library. One of them may have one, or Barbur Blvd Rentals. They rent everything.

I'll talk a 6er of Hop Valley's Citrus Mistrusts though... mmmmmm.... beer....

Thanks. I check them out but I somehow doubt they have such a specialty tool.

I am at a lost as what timing tool is required to install a RMW cam or anyone else's.

This thread might help.

I read that you can do it without but it does seem easier to do it with the tool. If i can't find one locally i'll do it without. Tool:

I've never done a cam on Mini. But I am sure you can just improvise something to prevent the chain from slipping a link while you have the old one out. Installing the new one is just a matter of mechanical indexing, back to the same location as the old one you removed. Most use a bungie cord of sort.

Don't forget to make the dent in the spark plug tube as the RMW cam will rub on one of them making a bit a hole... which is bad... from what I understand.

Still waiting on that 6er of beer... just kidding. Though with the weather so nice today, may have to pick a 22oz and enjoy on my deck.

I think you only need to make the dent if warranted. I will wait until the cam is in and torqued to spec and then check for interference or close to. You never know with aftermarket parts.

I know about checking the clearance between the spark plug tubes and cam. However i am little confused about how that is done without pulling them. Can I just dent them with a cold chisel or punch without dissloging or bending them?
