2005 mini gear ratios

Hello all ...

I'm considering a 2005 MC (coupe, not S model) with 5 speed transmission. Does anyone know the overall top end gear ratio used in the 05s? i.e. - at 60 mph in 5th gear what kind of RPM are you turning?

Thanks!
... Craig

Overall gear ratio for 5th is 3.509.

To maintain 60 mph in 5th gear ...

2954 rpm with 175/65-15 tires
2895 rpm with 195/55-16 tires
2917 rpm with 205/45-17 tires

why does it jump back up on 17 tires?

RPM required to maintain MPH is effected by tire size ... the larger the tire diameter (hence circumference) the lower the revolutions required to maintain speed. 195/55-16 tires have the largest diameter (24.44") followed by 205/45-17 (24.26") and 175/65-15 (23.96").

Ordering by RPM rather than tire size:

2895 rpm with 195/55-16 tires
2917 rpm with 205/45-17 tires
2954 rpm with 175/65-15 tires

Hmm... very interesting, MINIAC. Could you explain how you computed those numbers, I'd like to figure out some other engine speeds for my own reference...

Here's the formula:

R = M / (60 * 3.14159 * (W * P / 100 * 2 / 25.4 + D) / 12 / 5280 / G)

where

R = RPM
M = MPH
W = Width of tire
P = Profile (aspect ratio) of tire
D = Diameter of wheel
G = Gear Ratio

For top speed in gears ...
