Got Melting Wipers? Get RainX!

Last night it rained, and I used my wipers for the first time in a year, and they stuck to my windshield like glue! I got rubber traces all over the place and they didn't do anything for making my windshield more clear.

So when I got home, I cleaned off all the rubber residue, and wiped on some RainX (I have the Towelette version). Then tonight, it rained again, and I didn't even have to turn on my wipers! Useless as they are anyways, the water just beaded right up and shot away. Pretty cool stuff.

I've actually been using this product for many years, but since it rains so infrequently here in California, it's really good stuff since our wiper blades don't last that long.

Thanks Hafid. I visited their site and they don't list MINI in their sizing chart. Which one would I choose?

Thanks

Good questions! I don't remember off hand. I'll have to measure mine and let you know. I'll do that when I get home on Friday.

On my very first drive (friday night!), it was pouring rain. when i got home, there were rubber marks on the windscreen at the top and bottom position of the wipers' tracks. the next morning during my involved detailing session, i realized that it wasnt road grime, but it was rubber and even my industrial strength glass cleaner was no match. it took some rubbing alcohol (and some rubbing) to get it off. what would have caused that? just the fact that the blades are new?

I treat my windshield with Rain-X and use Rain-X wiper fluid. Makes rain a non-issue and also makes the bugs easier to clean off.

So happy you have discovered the joy of RainX.
I need to make a correction to your statement...."since it rains so infequently here in Southern California,..." It has been raining up here since saturday and should rain 8 out of the next 10 days. Up here in the north we get lots of rain from about Oct. to May. Which is why I LOVE RAIN-X it is an absolute essential IMO.

I love rain-x but have found something that beats it.... PPG Aquapel. My local window tint place sold me my first application for about $20, since then I have found it on ebay for about $4 per application. It comes in a little felt covered tube that you squeeze to break the interior glass container, much like a glo-stick you might see kids with around halloween. Apply it just like you would rain-x, one container should do all a car's exterior glass. Once applied it works for months, instead of weeks like rain-x. I use it religiously along with some PIAA super-silicone wiper blades I got from the TireRack.

Good stuff if you can find it, otherwise the rain-x is a must.

Those triple edge silicon blades actually leave a film of silicon on you glass and has the same effect as rain-X when it rains. And when you replace the assembly and not just the blades, they are guaranteed for life as long as you own the car.

Don't forget, the wiper blades are covered by warranty. Crappy yes, but covered.
